Saturday on the Links

Saturday on the Links November 28, 2015

Just one link today.

Had the chance to go out for a nice little super last night–a modicum of wine, a gorgeous lamb chop, the cozy indoor sparkle on a balmy night, the giant tv looming over us all with the sound off, closed captioning on, and CNN roiling away in its usual swirl of self importance and outrage. We sipped our wine and watched an appalled person standing in the snow in Colorado nodding and speaking and nodding. ‘Planned Parenthood Shooting Suspect Not In Custody!!!!!’ or some such words scrolled exaltantly across the bottom of the screen. Finally someone unrelated to us went over and turned the channel away from that and on to a ball game. Relieved smiles overtook the room in a wave.

You know, because everybody wants more babies to be killed. Oops, I mean grown people. Sorry, the jokes just write themselves. I can’t stand the looks of importance on grownup people’s faces, people who survived infancy, by, you know, not being killed, when talking about anything surrounding planned parenthood. I’m sure it’s the same irritation women feel when a man puffs out his chest and begins to Mansplain them (although the I’ve never seen that happen, I’ve only read about it, so it may be a myth, like a pony laden unicorn flying in for Christmas). To the planned parenthood worker who looks smug I would like to say, ‘check your privilege’ or some such useless slogan.

So, any way, it looks  like the shooter wasn’t shooting up planned parenthood but was taking refuge there, hiding as it were, after shooting at police officers at various other locations like a bank and so on. And so the long day wears on.

Vigilante justice, obviously, is evil and dumb, but you know what else is dumb? A quoth “news” outlet getting super excited and happy about the idea of a wacko with a gun shooting up the Temple of the Age, never mind the blood flowing down inside, the death and lying swirling together.

I hope you’ll all have a happy Saturday, if that’s on your list of things to do. Pip Pip!
