Mike Pence believes that God has called him to be president of the U.S., according to a new biography, “The Shadow President: The Truth About Mike Pence.”

While Trump may be a crass and ignorant buffoon, Vice President Pence is much worse – a cold, cruel, religious extremist with dreams of a Christian theocracy.

Pence, who  is fond of saying he is “a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order,” is Sarah Palin without the charisma, a conservative Christian nightmare who rejects the separation of church and state, and places his Christian faith above the U.S. Constitution.

USA Today reports on the new Pence biography:

In “The Shadow President: The Truth About Mike Pence,” on sale Tuesday, authors Michael D’Antonio and Peter Eisner cast Pence’s background – congressman, Indiana governor, Trump VP – in a harsh light, arguing that “the most successful Christian supremacist in American history” is already functioning as a “kind of replacement president” and is preparing to “fashion a nation more pleasing to his god and corporate sponsors.”

Commenting on Pence, D’Antonio told CNN:

Absolutely everything Mike Pence does is oriented toward him becoming president. His decision to accept Donald Trump’s offer to be his running mate — it even goes back much further. By the time he had left high school, he had decided that he was going to be president of the United States… He thought God was calling him to, now, be vice president and function as a president-in-waiting.

Indeed, it is no secret that Pence is a radical religious extremist – a cold, cruel, Christian supremacist. In fact, Pence is anti-science, anti-women, and anti-LGBT.

Anti-Science

Pence believes that creationism should be taught in public schools.

When serving as a congressman, Pence made it clear that he opposes evolution, and believes that only creationism (intelligent design) provides a “rational explanation for the known universe.”

In 2002, Pence delivered a passionate speech on the floor of the House of Representatives arguing that evolution is “only a theory” and that public schools should teach the theory of intelligent design as well as the theory of evolution.

Pence told his colleagues:

I believe that God created the known universe, the earth and everything in it, including man. And I also believe that someday scientists will come to see that only the theory of intelligent design provides even a remotely rational explanation for the known universe.

In other words, for Pence, the only rational explanation is “God did it.”

In his speech, Pence also made the false and misleading claim that creationism is a valid scientific alternative to the theory of evolution, arguing that creationism should be taught alongside evolution in the public school science classroom.

Pence is also a climate science denier. Media Matters reports:

On the February 21, 2014, edition of MSNBC’s The Daily Rundown, host Chuck Todd asked Pence if he is “convinced that climate change is man-made.” Pence responded: “I don’t know that that is a resolved issue in science today.” Moments later, Pence added: “Just a few years ago, we were talking about global warming. We haven’t seen a lot of warming lately. I remember back in the ‘70s we were talking about the coming ice age.” Pence similarly stated on the May 5, 2009, edition of MSNBC’s Hardball that “I think the science is very mixed on the subject of global warming,” as ThinkProgress noted. However, according to NASA: “Multiple studies published in peer-reviewed scientific journals show that 97 percent or more of actively publishing climate scientists agree: Climate-warming trends over the past century are extremely likely due to human activities.”

Anti-Gay

Pence thinks the government should pay for gay conversion therapy.

Pence is a rabid homophobe who wants to deny civil civil rights to LGBT people, and wants taxpayer money to pay for gay conversion therapy, the despicable attempt to force a child or young adult to reverse their sexual orientation or gender identity, often to satisfy the religious superstition and bigotry of ignorant parents.

As reported by PolitiFact, during his first successful run for Congress in 2000, Pence advocated for government funding of gay conversion therapy on his campaign website, under a section called Strengthening the American Family:

Resources should be directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior.

In other words, Pence wants taxpayers to pay for what many rational observers believe is child abuse.

HIV Outbreak

In addition to believing taxpayers should fund the cruel and immoral practice of gay conversion  therapy, in 2015, as Governor of Indiana, Pence allowed an HIV outbreak to spread, choosing prayer over a clean needle exchange.

As an HIV outbreak exploded in a rural county of Indiana, for several months Governor Pence refused to allow a clean needle exchange, despite desperate pleas from local, state and federal health officials urging the governor to allow clean needles to be distributed to slow the outbreak.

Pence could have easily prevented or mitigated a great deal of human suffering; instead, he failed to act in a timely fashion, and citizens suffered.

Anti-Women

Pence is anti-women. Pence supports so-called personhood bills that would criminalize abortion nationwide. In addition, Right Wing Watch reports Pence has spearheaded congressional efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, even if it meant shutting down the government; signed anti-abortion measures into law in Indiana; and rallied opposition to President Obama’s effort to roll back prohibitions on stem-cell research.

In addition, Pence promises an end to safe and legal abortion if Trump is elected. Pence claims Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court ruling that legalized abortion, will be overturned if Donald Trump is elected president. And he might be right, if Trump is elected he will be appointing the next Supreme Court justices.

Condoms

But perhaps one of the most dangerous and idiotic claims made by Pence concerns the use of condoms. In an interview with CNN, while advocating for abstinence only sex education, Pence said that condoms are too “modern,” too “liberal,” and offer a poor defense against sexually transmitted infections and diseases.

By disseminating false and misleading information about condoms, Pence demonstrates that he is willing to endanger the health and welfare of young people in order to promote his demented, right-wing, conservative Christian, puritanical agenda.

Bottom line

President Trump may be a buffoon, but a President Pence would bring ruin upon the nation and turn the U.S. into a Christian theocracy.

Vice President Mike Pence argued that a president should be impeached for moral failings like lying to the public and cheating on a spouse.

CNN reports that as radio host and congressional candidate Pence wrote several columns in the 1990’s arguing that President Bill Clinton should be impeached because of his extramarital affair with Monica Lewinsky and because the president was caught lying to the public about the affair.

In fact, Pence wrote two columns arguing that congress had a moral duty to impeach a lying and cheating president. CNN reports:

One of the columns, “The Two Schools of Thought on Clinton,” was posted on his now-defunct website for his radio talk show. Another column, “Why Clinton Must Resign or Be Impeached,” was posted on his congressional campaign website.

In his column “Why Clinton Must Resign or Be Impeached,” Pence wrote:

Further, the Presidents repeated lies to the American people in this matter compound the case against him as they demonstrate his failure to protect the institution of the presidency as the ‘inspiring supreme symbol of all that is highest in our American ideals. Leaders affect the lives of families far beyond their own ‘private life’.

Pence continued to make his case by referencing the Bible:

In the Bible story of Esther we are told of a king who was charged to put right his own household because there would be “no end of disrespect and discord” among the families of the kingdom if he failed to do so. In a day when reckless extramarital sexual activity is manifesting itself in our staggering rates of illegitimacy and divorce, now more than ever, America needs to be able to look to her First Family as role models of all that we have been and can be again.

And in his “The Two Schools of Thought on Clinton,” Pence wrote:

If you and I fall into bad moral habits, we can harm our families, our employers and our friends. The President of the United States can incinerate the planet. Seriously, the very idea that we ought to have at or less than the same moral demands placed on the Chief Executive that we place on our next door neighbor is ludicrous and dangerous,”

Throughout our history, we have seen the presidency as the repository of all of our highest hopes and ideals and values. To demand less is to do an injustice to the blood that bought our freedoms.

In both columns Pence clearly and forcefully argues that the president of the United States should be held to the highest moral standards, and if he is caught covering up an extra-marital affair and lying about it to the American public that president should resign or be removed from office.

However, Pence serves under President Donald Trump, a man who has been caught covering up an extra-marital affair and lying about it to the American public. Yet Pence says nothing.

Bottom line: In the 1990’s Mike Pence argued a president should be impeached if caught covering up an extra-marital affair and lying about it to the American public, and in 2018 Pence happily serves under Donald Trump.

The hypocrisy is undeniable.

Sinister Theocrat: Vice President Mike Pence promises legal abortion will end “in our time” while speaking at an anti-abortion event in Tennessee.

Pence, speaking at a lunch with the anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony List in Nashville, Tennessee, predicted that legal abortion will end “in our time” while praising the Trump administration’s attack on a woman’s right to reproductive freedom.

Calling Trump the “most pro-life president in American history,” Pence told the anti-women, anti-abortion, conservative Christian crowd:

I know in my heart of hearts this will be the generation that restores life in America.

If all of us do all we can, we can once again, in our time, restore the sanctity of life to the center of American law.

Pence added:

I see more progress in the last year in the cause of life than I have seen in public policy in all of my years.

Pence is not wrong about the progress being made to limit women’s reproductive freedom. The Hill reports:

Since President Trump took office last year, he has signed legislation reversing an Obama-era rule that blocked states from defunding Planned Parenthood and reinstated a ban on federal funds for global health programs that cover or promote abortions.

And this is not the first time Pence has promised to end legal abortion in America. In fact, it was a theme of the 2016 campaign.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan, during the campaign, Pence declared:

We’ll see Roe vs. Wade consigned to the ash heap of history where it belongs.

Ultimately, Pence, who is fond of saying he is “a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order,” is an anti-science, anti-gay, anti-woman, religious extremist.

The former Indiana Governor and current Vice President is a conservative Christian nightmare who rejects the separation of church and state, and places his Christian faith above the U.S. Constitution.

Pence is a radical religious extremist – a cold, cruel, Christian extremist. If given the chance, a President Pence would ruin the nation and turn the U.S. into a Christian theocracy.

Bottom line: Vice President Mike Pence promises that legal abortion will end “in our time.”

And the Republican war on women continues.

Thoughts and prayers are not enough: Vice President Mike Pence offers “thoughts and prayers” after a deadly mass shooting in Northern California.

A mass shooting in the rural community of Rancho Tehama, California, leaves five dead, and at least 10 wounded.

ABC reports:

Five people have been killed, including the gunman, and multiple others injured after a shooting rampage that started at a home and ended at an elementary school in rural Northern California.

Los Angeles Times reports:

At least five people are dead following shootings at multiple locations in Tehama County, including an elementary school where at least two children were wounded.

Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston told the Los Angeles Times that the gunman appeared to be “randomly picking targets.”

According to the ABC report, “at least one student was shot and injured at an elementary school after shootings occurred at seven separate scenes near the town of Red Bluff. A second child and a female adult were shot in a truck, authorities said.”

One student at the elementary school was shot and another child was hit while sitting in a truck alongside a roadway. Both are being treated at a local hospital.

Vice President Mike Pence responded to the tragedy via Twitter, offering yet another rendition of the usual “thoughts and prayers”:

Saddened to hear of the shooting in N. California, the loss of life & injuries, including innocent children. We commend the effort of courageous law enforcement. We’ll continue to monitor the situation & provide federal support, as we pray for comfort & healing for all impacted

In related news, California Rep. Ted Lieu walked out when Congress held a moment of silence for the victims of the mass shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, that left 26 churchgoers dead and 20 more injured earlier this month.

Lieu, a Democratic, released a video via Facebook Live from the hallway of congress explaining why he refused to participate in what many believe was a gratuitous and meaningless gesture in the face of a serious crisis terrorizing the nation.

Bottom line: Thoughts and prayers are not enough.

President Trump often mocks Vice President Pence’s conservative Christianity and once joked Pence “wants to hang” all gay people.

A new report from the New Yorker claims that President Donald Trump regularly mocks Vice President Mike Pence for his conservative Christian faith. According to the new report, Trump often makes jokes at Pence’s expense, frequently asking people who met with Pence:

Did Mike make you pray?

More from the New Yorker concerning abortion and homosexuality:

During a meeting with a legal scholar, Trump belittled Pence’s determination to overturn Roe v. Wade. The legal scholar had said that, if the Supreme Court did so, many states would likely legalize abortion on their own. “You see?” Trump asked Pence. “You’ve wasted all this time and energy on it, and it’s not going to end abortion anyway.” When the conversation turned to gay rights, Trump motioned toward Pence and joked, “Don’t ask that guy—he wants to hang them all!”

Trump is not wrong. Pence, who is fond of saying he is “a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order,” is an anti-science, anti-gay,  anti-woman, religious extremist.

In fact, the former Indiana Governor and current Vice President is a conservative Christian nightmare who rejects the separation of church and state, and places his Christian faith above the U.S. Constitution.

Indeed, Pence is a cold, cruel, Christian zealot – a radical religious extremist. If given the chance, a President Pence would ruin the nation and turn the U.S. into a Christian theocracy.

In particular, Pence is a rabid homophobe who wants to deny civil civil rights to LGBT people, and wants taxpayer money to pay for gay conversion therapy, the despicable attempt to force a child or young adult to reverse their sexual orientation or gender identity, often to satisfy the religious superstition and bigotry of ignorant parents.

Bottom line: Trump knows that Pence is a right-wing Christian extremist with a faith based hatred for LGBT people, and he thinks it’s funny.

Impeachment worries: Senator Al Franken warns Mike Pence is a dangerous Christian “zealot” who “would be worse” than Donald Trump.

In a recent interview Senator Al Franken discussed the possible ramifications of impeaching President Donald Trump. In particular, Franken is concerned that as president, Mike Pence would be worse that Trump on domestic policy because Pence is a dangerous Christian “zealot.”

Speaking about a potential Pence presidency, Franken told International Business Times that Pence would be worse than Trump, at least on domestic policy, because he is too “ideological” and a “zealot.”

Franken said:

Pence ran the transition and some of the very worst nominees, I felt — [EPA chief Scott] Pruitt, [Education Secretary Betsy] DeVos, [HHS Secretary Tom] Price, [Budget director Mick] Mulvaney — were Pence selections…

He’s ideological, I consider him a zealot, and I think that in terms of a lot of domestic policy [Pence] certainly would be worse than Trump.

Franken is right. President Trump may be a buffoon, but a President Pence would bring ruin upon the nation and turn the U.S. into a Christian theocracy.

As Trump’s troubles continue to grow, conservatives and liberals alike are wrestling with the very real possibility that Trump will be forced out of office due to scandal and/or incompetence, leaving a President Mike Pence in charge of the nation.

Many conservatives are happy with the prospect of Trump leaving office and a President Pence taking control. They see Pence as a traditional and predictable Republican, and many are sympathetic to his radical religious extremism.

However, for liberals, progressives, and others who value the secular values upon which this nation was founded, a President Pence would be a disaster.

Pence, who is fond of saying he is “a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order,” is an anti-science, anti-gay,  anti-woman, religious extremist.

Declaring that “the Christian faith is under siege,” Vice President Mike Pence promises Christians will get special protection while speaking at  The World Summit in Defense of Persecuted Christians.

At the summit, sponsored by controversial conservative Christian extremist Franklin Graham via the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Pence promised that “America will prioritize protecting Christians,” according to a report issued by The Washington Post.

Pence, promising that Christians would be receiving special treatment, told the audience:

I’m here on behalf of the President as a tangible sign of his commitment to defending Christians…

During his address Pence argued that “the Christian faith is under siege” while claiming that “no other faith group faces more persecution than Christians.”

Pence, wallowing in the glory of “Christian persecution” told the audience:

The Bible tells us: “All who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.”  And those of you gathered here today are emblematic of millions across the world.  You’ve persevered through the crucible of persecution.  You refused to be conformed to this world.  You have chosen instead to be counted with those outside the city gate for your faith.  And by your life, you bear witness to the truth that brings us together here at this summit.

Pence continued his sermon privileging the suffering of Christians over all others:

The reality is, across the wider world, the Christian faith is under siege.  Throughout the world, no people of faith today face greater hostility or hatred than the followers of Christ.  In more than 100 countries spread to every corner of the globe –- from Iran to Eritrea, Nigeria to North Korea –- over 215 million Christians confront intimidation, imprisonment, forced conversion, abuse, assault, or worse, for holding to the truths of the Gospel.  And nowhere is this onslaught against our faith more evident than in the very ancient land where Christianity was born.

Two millennia ago, the Disciples of Christ, the forefathers of our faith, fanned out from Israel in every direction to bring the good news that we proclaim across the globe to this day.  And in the valleys of Syria, Palestine, the plains of Nineveh and the Nile, on the banks of the Tigris and the Euphrates, they planted seeds of belief.  They watered them with their sacrifice and their courage.  They blossomed into fruit, and have borne fruit for the Gospel ever since.

While it is true that Christians and other non-Muslim people face intense persecution in the Middle East and North Africa, it is doubtful that “no other faith group faces more persecution than Christians.”

Pence’s claims of Christian persecution are even more absurd when one examines the current state of affairs in the U.S.A. After all, Pence, a radical Christian extremist, is currently the Vice President, and Republican lawmakers are busy trying to pass laws legalizing discrimination against gays and others on the grounds that the sincerely held religious beliefs of Christians must be respected no matter how immoral and heinous those beliefs happen to be.

In addition, Pence, while claiming Christians are being persecuted, is openly promoting his Christian religion, and even promising that his religion will receive special protection from the U.S. government.

Bottom line: All persecuted people deserve protection, and no one religion deserves special treatment. Yet try telling this simple moral truth to a cold, cruel, religious extremist with dreams of a Christian theocracy.

Creepy Christian Mike Pence has some strange ideas about women, and calls his wife “Mother.”

Earlier this year reports circulated that Pence refuses to eat alone with a woman or attend an event where alcohol is being served unless his wife Karen is present because of his extreme religiosity. However, in addition to these unsettling reports is the bizarre fact that Pence refers to his wife, Karen Pence, as “Mother.”

Rolling Stone reports:

While Mike Pence was governor, his relationship with the Democratic minority in the legislature was crap. Someone on his staff suggested having the Democratic leaders over to the governor’s mansion for dinner. The table was set for 20, but there were only around seven in attendance. One unlucky legislator stuck next to Pence tried to make conversation, but found even at dinner she couldn’t shift Pence off his talking points. Gov. Pence shouted to his wife, Karen, his closest adviser, at the other end of the table.

“Mother, Mother, who prepared our meal this evening?”

The legislators looked at one another, speaking with their eyes: He just called his wife “Mother.”

Maybe it was a joke, the legislator reasoned. But a few minutes later, Pence shouted again.

“Mother, Mother, whose china are we eating on?”

Mother Pence went on a long discourse about where the china was from. A little later, the legislators stumbled out, wondering what was weirder: Pence’s inability to make conversation, or calling his wife “Mother” in the second decade of the 21st century.

In a recent interview with Salon, legendary filmmaker John Waters roasted Pence for his bizarre behavior. Speaking with Amanda Marcotte about the current political situation, Waters declared:

The scary thing with Trump is that if anything does happen, Pence is way, way worse. And his wife is way, way, way worse than Pence. And he calls her “Mommy.”

Waters is correct. While Trump may be a crass and ignorant buffoon, Pence is much worse – a cold, cruel, religious extremist with dreams of a Christian theocracy.

Pence, who  is fond of saying he is “a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order,” is a conservative Christian nightmare who rejects the separation of church and state, and places his Christian faith above the U.S. Constitution.

In fact, Pence is anti-science, anti-women, and anti-LGBT. He is a radical religious extremist, a cold, cruel, Christian extremist. And if given the chance, he would turn the U.S. into a Christian theocracy.

Bottom line: Vice President Mike Pence is a dangerous and deranged Christian extremist who calls his wife “Mother.”

Misogyny for Jesus: Vice President Mike Pence will not eat alone with a woman or attend an event where alcohol is being served unless his wife is present.

According to a recent profile of Karen Pence, the vice-president’s wife, Mike Pence “never eats alone with a woman other than his wife and that he won’t attend events featuring alcohol without her by his side, either.”

The profile, written by Ashley Parker at the Washington Post, notes:

In 2002, Mike Pence told the Hill that he never eats alone with a woman other than his wife and that he won’t attend events featuring alcohol without her by his side, either.

Writing for Huffington Post, Soraya Chemaly observes that “Mike Pence Is Why We Have To Stop Excusing Religious Sexism,” noting:

What a luxury it is for a man to decide he can’t, and doesn’t have to, be unchaperoned in the presence of a woman who might be an evil temptress out to destroy him. And what a serious problem for women.

Writing for Vox, Joanna Grossman argues that Pence’s practice is illegal “sex discrimination” under Title VII with regard to employment law and a boss-employee relationship.

Grossman notes:

[T]he practice described by Pence in that 2002 interview is clearly illegal when practiced by a boss in an employment setting, and deeply damaging to women’s employment opportunities.

Grossman adds:

By law, working dinners with the boss could be considered an opportunity to which both sexes must have equal access,” she continued. “Employers are not permitted to classify employees on the basis of gender without proof that sex is a bona fide occupational qualification for a particular job. A Pence-type rule could never satisfy this test.

Writing for the National Post Ashley Csanady opines:

The explicit reasons for Pence’s restriction are religion and family, but the implicit reason is that he must avoid alone-time with women lest his stringent religious moral code fall apart in the presence of a little lipstick and décolletage

At its core, Pence’s self-imposed ban is rape culture.

The New Yorker explains that Pence’s overt sexism is common among some extreme conservative Christians, and is known as the the “Billy Graham rule.”

Bottom line: While President Trump was fond of bragging about his ability to sexually assault women and get away with it (“grab them by the pussy”); Pence is content with simply excluding women from the dinner table, even if that means he eats alone.
