Documenting the Exodus from black churches

When I went to DragonCon, I didn't care about all the comic book stuff or who played the voice for some video game I don't play or TV show I've never heard of. I know, since I stopped watching TV around Y2K, I've really fallen out of the loop as far as pop culture goes. I was at DragonCon for the SkepticTrak, a lecture hall dedicated to atheism, skepticism, critical thinking and so on. I enjoyed every presentation I saw there. One of them piqued my curiosity. Mandisa Thomas, President of Black … [Read more...]

An Amazing blurb

James Randi has written an Amazing endorsement of my book! The seemingly unquenchable popularity of the so-called "paranormal" has long been a puzzle, both to me and to my good friend Aron Ra. However, Aron's much more important and more specific interest in preoccupation with woo-woo is bifold: religion & creationism -- to the study of which he has given much thought and concern. His book Foundational Falsehoods of Creationism brings to our stunned attention the farcical, juvenile, … [Read more...]

Number One New Release in Christianity

This book has been something like eight years in the making for me. The official release date is November 1st. So my book hasn't even been released yet, but it's already the #1 New Release in Christianity on Amazon today! There's a certain irony in that, I think. :-)Yes, there will be an audio version. But my schedule is crazy at the moment, and I won't have time to record it until November. … [Read more...]

Rick Wiles: Pokemon Go is Satan’s Cyber-Demons

Hyper-vigilant, would-be televangelist, Rick Wiles of TRUNews a member of Jim Bakker's PTL Ministry, recounted the seemingly benign tale of a stranger playing Pokémon Go outside his office building this week.According to RightWingWatch, Wiles attributed the player's otherwise explicable behavior to none other than the Biblical villain Satan himself. He went on to describe a vast conspiracy to infest his office and churches with "cyber-demons." The motive of the conspiracy for Satan ac … [Read more...]

If you needed another reason to go to Reason Rally…

More than a few atheists (unfortunately), who are angry at Reason Rally for standing up for Reproductive Rights and LGBTQ equality, are refusing to go. I can't say I will miss the unwarranted hostility because there will be plenty from creationists like Ray Comfort. Aron posted a video commenting on the diversity of viewpoints despite what anti-feminists believe and triggered a bunch of angry anti-social justice  commenters. It's disheartening to see some of the comments t … [Read more...]

Professor of Atheism?

So I just read in the New York Times that a wealthy atheist has donated a couple million dollars to the University of Miami -with the purpose of endowing the nation's first academic chair for the study of atheism, humanism and secular ethics. Now, as an atheist activist as well as an advocate of reason in education, I am of course excited about that. But I am also conflicted and confused. I mean, what would an atheist study study? There's science of course, natural history and cosmology, logic … [Read more...]

Rubio: Our Rights Come From God

Last night's Republican debate was Florida Senator Marco Rubio's next to last opportunity to pitch his candidacy to primary voters before the Iowa Caucuses on February 1st. The next debate will be in Iowa itself on January 28th. It should really come as no surprise to anyone following his campaign that for his closing sales pitch of the debate that he repeated this claim: You know 200 years ago, America was founded on this powerful principle that our rights don't come from government our rights … [Read more...]

Both Parties are the Same! #1 FLPCB HHSC 15-03 , also known as Conscience Protection for Private Child-Placing Agencies

Voter turnout during the US midterm elections was pathetic. There was a definite lack of critical thinking and due diligence evidenced by opposing Republicans, Libertarians, and apathetic liberals in the "Freethought" movement, who repeated the soul sucking canards "Both Parties are the Same" and "It's a Broken System" during the mid term elections. Aron and I tried to encourage people to vote, but were met with an onslaught of sanctimonious people acting as if not voting was more … [Read more...]

Chapel Hill: No wonder others don’t get the Muslim and Ex-Muslim Community

Even in the atheist community that prides itself on intellectualism, we often speak for and even instead of Muslims and Ex-Muslims. We have a listening problem.  Sadaf Ali, who helped found Ex-Muslims of North America, nails it... … [Read more...]

Exceeded expectations thanks to FTBCon3

Although, some of the audience wasn't sure what to expect, The Secular Asian Community panel was well received. It is now posted on youtube. Despite large numbers of Asians in Asia and non-Asian countries, we have yet to see an offline conference that addressed Asian issues both South and East Asian. So we took the opportunity that FTBCon offered us to take the initiative, and add our voices to the freethought community. We were missing some of our past South Asian panelists like Hemant … [Read more...]
