Still Voting for Trump?

Who could have predicted the Donald Trump campaign could have sunk any lower going into the second presidential debate tonight? Perhaps, the 42 percent of Hillary Clinton voters in a 4-way match-up that includes third party voters according to Politico's numbers. That now leaves 39 percent that still support Trump even after the release of a video where Trump enthuses about getting away with sexual assault: "I'm automatically attracted to beautiful [women]—I just start kissing them. It's like a … [Read more...]

Presidential Debate Tonight:Live Fact Checking and Drinking Game Strategy

Many of us don't want to believe it has come down to Trump Vs. Clinton but here we are making the best of it. A new feature thanks to the plucky folks at Bloomberg TV is live fact checking! So you aren't watching with that nagging voice in the back of your head that tells you, "Hey wait a minute that's not true!" And let's be realistic that would have been quite distracting watching tonight's debate. Also, maybe not the greatest drinking game strategy if you did that every time presidential … [Read more...]

Target loses significant business because of trans-friendly bathrooms

Unfortunately, it appears bigotry is a good business strategy as boycotts of Chick-fil-a for donating money to organizations that opposed same-sex marriage caused the opposite of the intended effect. Sales to Chick-fil-a actually soared 14 percent (edit)after the company defiantly supported the "biblical definition of marriage."To make matters worse, a business, like Target, taking a pro-LGBTQ equality stand has been bad for business. Target came under fire by boycotters for a bathroom po … [Read more...]

Fact Checking Anti-Abortionist Carol Everett VS Lilandra Ra Debate

The United States has made some encouraging progress since I debated the question "Should Abortion be Legal?" Last year in October, I debated with staunch abortion opponent Carol Everett.Everett makes the rounds on conservative programs such as the 700 Club and Focus on the Family and also Fox News. Her group, the Heidi Group, networks and trains Crisis Pregnancy Centers that are most often run by Christians to dissuade people with crisis pregnancies from having an abortion. In fact, many … [Read more...]

Dillahunty vs. Giunta: Did Jesus Rise from the Dead

Matt Dillahunty will debate Blake Giunta tonight at the Bible and Beer Consortium Debate Series.  This is RationalWiki's opinion on their last debate about the existence of god.  Apparently, his opponent plays with probability in a way that weights his conclusions about god more heavily and discounts natural explanations while leaving out other possibilities. He has his finger on the scale on the side of his conclusion vs. all others. I am curious to see if he will offer anything subs … [Read more...]

Social Justice for Reasonable People: Racial Justice Discussions

How can reasonable people discuss racial justice? Any secular group that focuses on people of color often gets ironic criticism for being exclusive. Though in my experience with American groups, I don't know of any secular group that disallows whites from joining. As a biracial Asian-American, I have always been there doing my small part to help increase understanding of race issues in the movement. I have participated in discussions like during the Secular Social Justice Conference where some … [Read more...]

Clinton: National Security Concerns

I have to agree with Bernie Sanders that I don't give a damn about her damn emails, or Benghazi conspiracies either. This won't be the type of post about some arcane conspiracy that an avid Alex Jones fan would obsess over.  Later, I will get to my concerns about Senator Bernie Sanders in the next post, so it won't be a Clinton bashing party either.Although I am a Sanders supporter, Clinton still has time to change my mind. I watch the presidential debates with questions in mind I'd like to … [Read more...]

Governor Abbott: FFRF Capitol Holiday Display “Mocks Religious Beliefs” and must go.

In a characteristic display of both irony and projection, Texas Governor Greg Abbott in a show of disrespect to the state's nonbelievers ordered the Freedom From Religion Foundation's holiday display removed from where it had been squirreled away on the basement floor for this reason:"The Constitution does not require Texas to allow displays in its Capitol that violate general standards of decency and intentionally disrespect the beliefs and values of many of our fellow Texans," Abbott … [Read more...]

Why we don’t support media trolls

It's not like we don't see people reminding us in comments on videos asking Aron if he is going to respond to something a media troll said. Often fans of media trolls try to start off-topic comment battles on every one of Aron's videos even on innocuous topics that are not controversial in the atheist community, like science education. All because he made one video in support of feminism a couple of years ago, which was quote-mined by a media troll a year ago.As someone who writes the Living … [Read more...]

Twitter says Bernie won

Normally whoever wins the debate is whoever you already agreed with before it began, but it seems that Twitter has an objective way of determining the winner of last night's Democratic debate. See the link here.It was an amusing thing to see. The funniest summary I saw on Twitter was "a corporate sell-out, an idealist, and three cardboard cut-outs walk into a bar..."  It did seem like Hillary vs Bernie in the midst of three stuffed suits. I understand those other three didn't get equal … [Read more...]
