Aron Ra State Senate Campaign Donations

I have a certified public accountant registered with the Texas Ethics Commission as my campaign treasurer. Together we opened a separate bank account specifically for my 2018 run for State Senate, District 2, and I have a website linking to a PayPal account where I can finally begin accepting campaign donations. I hate that it takes money to run an election in this country, and it is absurd how much money is required. At a recent meeting of the local Democratic party, I was told that a State … [Read more...]

Politically opinionated

I don't like to share my political opinions because so many of them require explanation and some also require a prior understanding. Those with neither think I don't have either. It also requires a willingness to understand, which a lot of my critics simply do not have. Sadly too many people, both on the left and on the right are only interested in tearing into each other over any perceived difference they can demonize. That's how the country became so divided, and we're going to have to find a … [Read more...]

I was once a Jedi

Atheism never had good public relations, largely because of the smear campaign that labeled atheists as believing in nothing, or having an unreasonable rejection of even the possibility of a god, insisting instead that atheists have to know that no god exists. This was a very successful campaign because some of the greatest atheists of the last couple centuries refuse to identify by that label—because of these reasons. And religious proselytizers took advantage of that in their recruitment t … [Read more...]

What is your political alignment?

I think it funny that everyone who says they want less government always votes for candidates on the authoritarian right, who actually seem to want as much government as possible; more military intervention, personal interference, surveillance and scrutiny of the public: removing regulations on industries, but actively restricting the rights of private citizens in private matters or even in their own bedrooms. Meanwhile those in the opposite quadrant are really just liberating the common folk … [Read more...]

How to disprove Noah’s Flood

For the last few years, I've been meaning to do a video series explaining how various fields of study disprove the Noachian deluge. I finally got around to doing that as a reward to my patrons at Patreon.com/AronRa. This is the first of what should be a five-part series. The next episode will be How Geology Disproves the flood. So I'll be accepting suggestions from geologists as I write that script. … [Read more...]

Just a Snip

In my most recent episode of the Ra-Men, I spoke to Lena Lena Nyhus, founder of 'Intact Denmark' and 'Just a Snip', organizations opposed to the circumcision of children too young to consent. Female circumcision is already identified as genital mutilation in her home country of Denmark. So now she advocates for the rights of boys against being cut when there is no medical reason to do so, and a number of very good reasons not to.Lena welcomes discussion and shared a number of contact … [Read more...]

My debate with Subboor Ahmad

I had a second formal moderated debate with a live audience. It was originally supposed to take place at a huge Muslim Dawah conference, and that's why I was so eager to accept. but I guess the organizers had other ideas about that and cancelled. Subboor said we might reschedule for the next time I'm in London. But I was eager to engage. And although London might have been better in some aspects, I still wanted to do it sooner and in Texas. So I called on Humanists of Houston less than a month … [Read more...]

Road to Reason

Robert Penczak, the executive director of Atheist Alliance of America also hosts a UstreamTV show called Road to Reason. In their most recent episode, they chose to interview me.The reason they wanted to interview me now is because Atheist Alliance of America is strongly endorsing Street Epistemology, and of course I just did a collaborative video lesson on that with Anthony Magnabosco, and practiced it with students at UTSA. … [Read more...]

‘Tis the Season for believin’ silly things you know ain’t true

This being the season for believin' (so I am told) I'm going to share an old Facebook post explaining part of my perspective on the imagined war on Christmas and people's rights to religious freedom. "Let me start by saying you have the right to not believe in any God. As I have the right to believe there is a God. Then we divide. I want you to peacefully be able to not believe and I want all others to have the same opportunity as well . My question to you is, Why does there seem to be a need … [Read more...]

NoDAPL on the Secular Nation podcast

This is the second episode of the incarnation of Secular Nation, the official podcast of the Atheist Alliance of America, and the third episode aired since I was elected president of that organization. Here activists who went to Standing Rock talk about how financial institutions and industrial corporations have risen above the government, sometimes acting as or even identifying as government agencies. This is corporate oligarchy, where industries ignore all restrictions and invent their own … [Read more...]
