Podcast Sunday: Brian McLaren November 29, 2015

In this second installment of Podcast Sunday, we hear from Brian McLaren, author, speaker, and activist, who Mark interviewed while Brian was speaking in New Zealand earlier this year.

If you have ever struggled with lost faith, you will be encouraged by Brian’s open, honest reflections on suffering, fear, and life’s tough questions:

“I’m sure I am wrong about many things, although I’m not sure exactly which things I’m wrong about. I’m even sure I’m wrong about what I think I’m right about in at least some cases.”

“Our interpretations reveal less about God or the Bible than they do about ourselves. They reveal what we want to defend, what we want to attack, what we want to ignore, what we’re unwilling to question…”

“What if the Christian faith is supposed to exist in a variety of forms rather than just one imperial one? What if it is both more stable and more agile—more responsive to the Holy Spirit—when it exists in these many forms? And what if, instead of arguing about which form is correct and legitimate, we were to honor, appreciate, and validate one another and see ourselves as servants of one grander mission, apostles of one greater message, seekers on one ultimate quest?”

“I believe people are saved not by objective truth, but by Jesus. Their faith isn’t in their knowledge, but in God.”

For all those who have been told there is no room for them within the Christian faith, Brian creates space to belong.

We hope you enjoy listening!
