Add Masterchef Luca Manfe to Your Transcript September 3, 2015

Here we are at the beginning of the school year (Hooray!!!), and I’m betting that a few of you slacker moms (you are my people) are still debating things like electives and how to afford them.

And my son wants to take cooking classes…but not from me because “No offense, Mom, I mean you’re like a good cook and all. I mean, you haven’t killed anyone with your food. Yet. But I just want to learn how to cook from like a real chef.”

He’s got a point. I haven’t killed anyone yet, and I’m not a real chef. I’m mostly a completely self-taught cook who dreams of taking knife skills classes at the local cooking school. (I know I’m doing the knife stuff wrong. I watch cooking shows. I can see that they actually manage to get the pieces all mostly the same size.)

Luckily, I know a real chef. You know that guy who won Masterchef? Luca Manfe? Not to brag or anything, but I met him once at a friend’s birthday party where he was cooking. I had no idea who he even was before that night, but it didn’t matter. Something magical happened between us, and we talked for maybe a whole eight minutes. Really. AND he accepted my friend request on Facebook, after I wowed him with my stalker skills. I’m not saying that we’re like running off to get matching tattoos or anything (although I wouldn’t be opposed as long as he made lunch afterwards) but we’re pretty much BFFs. Which is why I knew I could just Facebook IM him for ideas on cooking classes for a 14 year old boy.

Naturally, he answered right away, as BFFs do, and pointed me towards Craftsy.com where he has….wait for it….a cooking class. (I love it when stuff works out.) He has a series of video classes where he teaches everything from making your own pasta to the proper way to debone and cook a fish to how to make stuff that looks like this

yum2 yum

I don’t even know what that is and I want to eat it.

Then he was all “Would you like a coupon code for half off so it’s only $20?” and I’m all “YEAH!!!” and then he said y’all could use it too for the next 24 hours. So, YAY!!!

And I looked at all the classes in his series and they’re enough to cover half a semester if you do one a week, which is not quite enough for a whole credit, so I went exploring on craftsy.com and there’s another class of Essential Cooking Techniques that could be used as the first half of the semester. And get this, when you register for craftsy, they give you a discount for your first class. If you use that for the Essential’s class, it will be $15.

That means that your kids can learn to make dinner for $35! And you never have to cook again!!!!!!!! (Sorry about the excessive exclamation points there. The idea of never cooking again has me giddy.)

You have until tomorrow to use his coupon discount code thing by clicking here www.craftsy.com/ext/LucaManf_5318_H
