‘The Shack’ Preview – The Next Big Christian Film?

‘The Shack’ Preview – The Next Big Christian Film? December 1, 2016

In 2007, William P. Young’s novel, The Shack, released and people were simply blown away by its success. Turned down by major companies before being self-published, the book was an unlikely hit, selling more than 10 million copies and receiving a tsunami of support (and critics) from the Christian and secular communities. As an editor covering the book industry at the time, I wrote one blog based on tweets from actress Demi Moore, who called it “life-changing.” As with any hugely successful New York Times bestselling release, rumors were rampant about a film version. In 2015, Lionsgate started production on the film, which stars Sam Worthington, Octavia Spencer, Radha Mitchell, and Tim McGraw.

In the past year, I’ve spoken to a couple of people who have already seen a preview. Although they were under legal obligations not reveal any details about it, both of them seemed to be very impressed. One said, “I saw it this summer and I promise you, I’ve thought about that film every single day since then.” That’s quite a statement.

Can this movie live up to the expectations of the book? The trailer looks like it very well could. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing it. Check out the preview below:
