Religion Prof: The Blog of James F. McGrath
The Blog of Dr. James F. McGrath, Clarence L. Goodwin Chair in New Testament Language and Literature at Butler University, Indianapolis
My review of the book Jesus, Gnosis and Dogma by Riemer Roukema has been posted on the Review of Biblical Literature web site.
Thanks for the review. I wonder if Jesus intended the discovery of His identity to be the province of the erudite.
Really appreciated this review. Thank you. I’ve long been interested in the question of whether any Gnostic themes can be traced back to the historical Jesus (for the record, I’m hopeful but doubtful). Thanks to your review, though, I’m not going to read this book, as I came away from the review unimpressed with either the depth of insight or lack of bias of the book’s author.
