One of my favorite Jerry Goldsmith non-science fiction film scores is for his music for the movie “The Blue Max.”  Just listening to the overture you’ll get a sense that this was the Star Wars for 1966.  Infact, George Lucas watched aerial dogfight movies to storyboard the space fighter combat sequences in Star Wars.  You can hear certain cues that John Williams followed when he scored his own outstanding space opera, ten years later.

Dr. McGrath, do you happen to own the recently produced two-disc version of this score La-La-Land Records? It’s really incredible… the original release didn’t have any of Lancelot’s music. Goldsmith is such a master that fans of his would nominate 20+ scores of his as being among his best… and I’d certainly put this one there. The chorus in “Arthur’s Farewell” is worth the price of it.

I don’t, but I am sure I would love it. I’ve added it to my Amazon wish list and will make a point of getting hold of it. Thanks for the recommendation!
