Mos Eisley #SBLAAR 2012 Annual Meeting

An article in the New York Times today compared the recent joint annual meeting of the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature to the Mos Eisley Cantina. And that is a moment at the intersection of religion and science fiction that I couldn’t allow to pass unmentioned!

As I wrote last week on Facebook, every time I see “the Nida Institute,” I think, “Apology accepted, Captain Needa.” Which means I spend all of AAR-SBL thinking in Star Wars terms. “That’s no conference center; that’s a space station!”
