James, I really hate to be “that guy,” but… how would you feel if someone made a picture of C-3PO as Jesus?

I’ve shared that sort of thing too. Why?

      • Nick

        lol, didn’t see that.

        I guess I’m just oversensitive.

I am interested in these sorts of images from an academic perspective, as illustrating how people bring religion and science fiction together. If I had a penchant for collecting or making only images that poke fun at religion, or some religions, then that would indeed be an appropriate cause for concern!

            Yeah, it would be lol.

I agree though, it is interesting. I guess a lot of it has to do with the perceived otherworldliness of the supernatural and religion. Same impulse that leads to things like Chariots of the Gods, perhaps.

After reading the Secret Book of John, I’d say good sci fi existed around 200AD, with enthusiastic followers/believers.

I like the Toledoth Yeshu with flying Simon Magus.

The recently built Wat Rong Khun Buddhist temple in Thailand contains murals of sci-fi characters like Superman, Neo from the Matrix, and others.

      Hehehehe, statue boobs…

Also, that building kind of looks like something out of the Narnia movies.
