Mandaean Mexican Restaurant in San Antonio

Charles Haberl kindly provided these details in response to my question about a Mandaean-owned restaurant in San Antonio:

The restaurant you’re looking for is (appropriately enough) called El Rio. It’s at 1361 S Main St #600, Boerne, TX 78006, United States.

It’s a half hour drive from the Convention Center, and so I don’t know whether I’ll be able to get there during AAR/SBL.

Jim Davila said he wanted an update, and so I hope he sees this!

  • Today I had the opportunity to drop in on the El Rio Mexican Restaurant in Boerne, Texas on my way to the “National Museum of the Pacific War” in Fredericksburg, Texas. I have posted a webpage with photos and commentary of my lunch at this restaurant. I have had to purchase another of the professor’s latest book as the owner of the El Rio, snatched away my copy to read it and to praise Dr. McGrath for his kind interest in the history and lives of the Mandaean people. If you can make your way to this establishment, you will meet real Mandaeans. I was so impressed with them and their delicious food!
