#Gamification at #CanvasCon

#Gamification at #CanvasCon June 14, 2017

One of my favorite sessions at CanvasCon was about video games and learning. Many of the points made are ones that I also make regularly when I explain my passion for gamification. The talk was by Matt Brenner, whose Twitter handle @levelupteacher is just perfect.

The talk began by asking those in the audience to define the characteristics of ideal students. Brenner then described the ideal gamer, highlighting that the attributes and skills are essentially the same.

The work of Jane McGonigal got a shoutout, providing data about how much time people today spend playing games vs. reading and doing other things.

More from the session on the next page, including one of the key motivations for myself and others to embrace gamification in higher education…
