Our Life is a Journey

(c) Carl Studna

Whenever we travel abroad, we place ourselves in conditions that are out of the status quo, away from our usual routine and schedule. Because so many experiences might be different than in our day-to-day routine at home, the diverse environment around us persuasively invites us to broaden our horizons and be flexible amidst the differences in language and customs. If we choose not to go with the program, we’ll likely feel impatient, unhappy and frustrated.Traveling offers us the o … [Read more...]

What Shall I Wear When Meeting a Guru?

(c) Carl Studna

Recently, I was invited to share an intimate one-on-one meeting with a prominent Indian guru. Not something that happens every day. It required flying from Denver to the East Coast, lodging in a hotel and renting a car, all on my dime….but how could I say no!? With little hesitation, I confirmed a date and made all travel arrangements. I considered the invitation a great honor and trusted that the higher purpose of the meeting would become clear and be enriching for us both. The day b … [Read more...]

Unconditional Love Is Not Enabling

2015-04_Alaskan Sunset

There is so much talk these days about the need to practice unconditional love, and for good reason. Our world is full of polarities that foster war, hunger, disease, loneliness, depression, and the list goes on. We live our lives with an unspoken agreement that we are separate from others, and from the natural environment. This misunderstanding breeds judgments within us and toward others. Without a doubt, the world is in need of our practicing unconditional love more than ever. But what … [Read more...]

Are You Vulnerable to Love?

In reference to war, a common expression has been, “being vulnerable to attack.” In personal terms, being vulnerable to your feelings has been deeply discouraged as we’ve been told that this leads to getting hurt. We clearly come from a culture that has viewed the notion of being vulnerable as one to avoid at all costs in order to preserve safety and security. As we continue to evolve as a culture growing into greater consciousness, we’r … [Read more...]

Dare to Be You!

(C) Carl Studna

Sounds simple? Try it for a day. Most of us that have been raised in Western culture have been deeply indoctrinated from the time of our birth with a whole lot of programing about how we should act, look and be in the world. Between the advertising, fashion, and pharmaceutical industries, many of us have had pretty heavy doses of the message that we need to be someone other than who we are. So much so, that we stop questioning our own internal wisdom and begin to believe that if we look a … [Read more...]

Expressing Your Inner Beauty

(c) Carl Studna

Imagine being at a bank and walking up to the window to make a transaction. You’re greeted with a warm smile by the bank teller as she asks how she can help you today.  As you proceed with your transaction, you notice how light and good that you feel inside and you realize that this teller’s way of relating with you brings forth an inner warmth and feeling of goodness. You observe that her eyes are alive with a compassionate presence and her smile emits a feeling of joyfulness. You think to your … [Read more...]

Leading from the Heart

don Miguel Ruiz (c) Carl Stunda

Who doesn’t remember the expression, “a child should be seen and not heard!” What a potent and suppressive statement this is for a child to receive. It’s no wonder that so many adults have lived a life of devout seriousness, largely void of joyful expression and playfulness. Our society has been deeply steeped in an unspoken agreement telling us that in order to reach our goals and be successful, we must be seriously focused and (at times) heartless.Fortunately, more and more of us are choosi … [Read more...]
