Local groups like MASH are the way forward for permanent change

In early January this year, a handful of us started the Military Atheists & Secular Humanists (MASH) local group at Fort Bragg. This was our first meeting:It's open to soldiers, families, and civilians around Fayetteville / Fort Bragg, NC. [Join - free!]By February we began the process of integrating into the Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers (MAAF), as Jason Torpy had expressed his long-standing desire to expand his MAAF-Network. Threats to rape and kill atheists? Stay classy, Fox News viewers.

On March 31st, 2012, Fort Bragg will be hosting Rock Beyond Belief with the full support it was promised. This just might be the turning point in the foxhole atheist community's struggle for acceptance, tolerance and respect. It's an amazing time to be a non-believer in the U.S. Military on the cusp of a major break-through.The public is invited, free of charge, to see this revolution begin to bear fruit. Our key-note speaker, Richard Dawkins regularly draws crowds in the thousands, e … [Read more...]

National Guard advertise jobs in Military Intelligence on Friendly Atheist

So yesterday we learned that the National Guard had a sectarian themed recruitment ad. This ad had no indication of being aimed towards potential chaplains - and plausible evidence to the contrary. It featured a soldier's torso with a 'Holy Bible' prominently featured in his possession, with the words "You are needed here."In an bit of epic irony, this just happened on Hemant Mehta's FriendlyAtheist:Hemant has recently switched to the new Patheos meta-site. I've noticed the shift in ad … [Read more...]
