Foxhole Atheists are fighting for your rights, please return the favor.

Pleased to meet you, FTB! I'm a foxhole atheist. Though I do not speak on behalf of the DoD in any way, I am an active duty Sergeant in the U.S. Army, currently deployed. We are the last untapped demographic in the Out Campaign. The negative stereotypes, myths, and misunderstandings that are universally applied to atheists in America are even more intense in the military. It's because many of us have been too afraid of retribution, and jeopardizing our careers to even come out and say "I … [Read more...]

Because these darned American Flags wont shred themselves

Quick start a Prayer Circle and ask for big-ass scissors!  I knew you could do it! What's (literally) wrong with this picture? Giant, bold Comic Sans [I swear it came like this] Judging from the pictures, everything but 'Emotional' is an outdoor activity. That emo guy in the bottom right corner represents resilience, a code word for not committing suicide. That emo guy in the bottom right corner is close to those big ass sharp scissors. An entire hour to do this: *SNIP* 'Meet me by … [Read more...]

U.S. Marine briefly arrested for not attending “all faiths” religious service

The following is sent in by David Z. - A former Marine Corps NCO. My contributions are clearly marked. First, I want to say that the Rock Beyond Belief concert is an awesome idea.  I wish the best for you, and I hope it turns out great.  I might try to come to it, if an Honorably Discharged Marine is allowed to come. [Edit - Justin Griffith: Of course!] I read a story you posted about a Sgt who wore a Bad Religion shirt and at the bottom you asked for people to share their stories. Boot … [Read more...]

My daughter thinks daddy lives in the computer

She definitely knows me, even though I've been gone for quite some time. Zoe is our first, and she is 7 months old now. I get to watch her grow up while deployed thanks to webcam technology. Many veterans of previous wars relied upon slow correspondence through letters or they used the phone every few weeks. I get so much more, and I'm grateful. Recently I even told my niece that I lived in the computer, and that I was hungry. She 'fed' me chips that she was snacking on. My family wasn't … [Read more...]

Chaplain’s assistant arrested after trying to meet two underage boys for sex via Facebook

Via our friends at The Secular Segment. WATERTOWN—The chaplain assistant at Fort Drum has been arrested for attempting to disseminate indecent material to a child and possession of child pornography, both felonies. Army Sgt. Yes, we are aware that Fort Bragg hasn’t added us to their calendar (yet)

Thank you all for writing in so frequently. I wish I could respond to every letter I get, but I really do read them all. Please keep them coming - it's like a care package every day! Some of you have noticed that the Fort Bragg events calendar hasn't been fleshed out to include Rock Beyond Belief on March 31st, 2012. Relax, for now. I've specifically requested and was approved to get this and many other forms of public visibility from the base. We'll be on the various event calendars. Posters … [Read more...]

College professor assaulted by Army veteran who was ‘sent by god’

Or not. There is a really dumb viral email / Facebook post making its rounds (again) about a presumably atheist professor and a military veteran. It's one of those sappy stories that grandma might flood your email box with. Many veterans and active duty service members in the MASH Facebook group commented on the resurgence of the story. This time there are a few variations, but the story goes like this: ...a college Professor stood on his chair and said, "If your imaginary friend really … [Read more...]

Keep evangelism and politics out of my military funeral, sign this.

A few weeks ago, I wrote about the fabrication of a controversy surrounding military funerals for veterans in Texas (my home state). Three Congressmen from Texas are in the middle of a deceptive media blitz. They are ‘standing up for’ a few private groups who like to officially incorporate their Christian prayer and ceremonies at the funerals of military veterans. The problem is, well… there is no problem! There is no ban of mentioning 'God' or 'Jesus' at funerals for veterans. These … [Read more...]

Millions of taxpayer dollars used to convert soldiers and their children to Christianity

Chris Rodda wrote an extensive exposé on the amount of your taxpayer money being spent on converting soldiers and their children to Christianity. Your money. The Soldier Fitness Tracker that includes the mandatory Spiritual Fitness testing and the equally mandatory remedial training. $125,000,000 The Spiritual Fitness Center at Fort Hood, Texas (many more to come!) - Often described as a 'mega church', the building even has religious stained glass windows. They are stocked with … [Read more...]
