Portal 2 and Doctor Who crossover?

"Worst. Episode. Ever." This is a corruption of yesterday's post about the Portal Potty. Which of course, are going to be present at the atheist festival on Fort Bragg, NC. None one of them will have portals installed. If you want to get shitfaced, do it back at the hotel afterwards. A little buzz? No problem. … [Read more...]

Coming out as an atheist at Marine Corps League veteran’s group

The following is sent in by David Z. – A former Marine Corps NCO. He's sent me some pretty amazing stories that I've shared here, including being briefly arrested for not attending an inter-faith event during his training, and his run-in with future-WWE wrestler, Randy Orton - who beats people up for Jesus. In case you didn't know, I am the Marine who sent you my story about Randy Orton. I told you about "outing" myself to my Marine Corps League and that I got a "no atheists in foxholes" … [Read more...]

Shitfaced in the Portal Potty

I've been deployed to the sandbox for several months. So I made this: What do you think about my Portal Potty? Don't get the joke? You must not have played the science and physics-based video game Portal (or it's incredible sequel - what an ending!) That's okay, you don't have to play it to get it, but you totally should. Even if you don't like video games. Watch this 30 second clip, and you'll get the idea. http://www.youtube.com/embed/H50wW4eAFKo? Portals are person-sized … [Read more...]

Navy Atheist forced to permanently cover up a Bad Religion tattoo

You may remember a few months back when SGT Kloberdanz told us about being kicked out of a Dining Facility for wearing a Bad Religion Shirt. Well, along these same lines comes a story from Navy Atheist CTR2 Michael Wheeler. I'm so proud of all the military atheists shedding the (often justified) fear of coming out of the atheist closet by name. As you are about to see, Michael Wheeler slammed the atheist closet door shut a long time ago. And he's pretty funny too. After reading your … [Read more...]

80′s TV show “Hill Street Blues” star’s incoherent anti-atheist rant

This morning, I told you about Daniel J. Travanti's bizarre rant against prominent Florida atheist, EllenBeth Wachs. Somewhere through his type-stumbling, he managed to claim there were no atheists in foxholes. But he didn't say it like that. He referred to it as something he was famous for telling General Patton (who died when Daniel was 6 years old). If you haven't seen it yet, check it out. You can even send him a message! (He's a bit 'out of work' since his higher power is only … [Read more...]

Hill Street Blues actor Daniel Travanti disparages atheists in foxholes

EllenBeth Wachs, the Florida atheist who has been harassed and arrested by a religious zealot in the Polk County Sherriff's Dept recently shared something with me. It involves B-list Hollywood actor Daniel Travanti of Hill Street Blues 'fame'. He played Captain Frank Furillo, if you were trying to remember this 'Where are they now' thespian. Apparently he sent a rambling hate letter to my friend EllenBeth, and invoked the 'No atheists in foxholes' canard. But he doesn't seem to pull it … [Read more...]

God wants me to do *what* with these sandbags?

I've come a long way on my Spiritual Fitness journey. I've taken their advice and started an 'online blog' and everything. I even took their advice to join social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook in order to connect with a Spiritual Community back home. However, I fear that if I'm too open minded about the mandatory Spiritual Fitness testing and training, I might find myself in this sticky situation. (Thanks, Facebook!) We tend to use sandbags for other purposes on the … [Read more...]

Religion is like a NSFW

I'm sure you've seen the original. Even many religious people identify with it. The sentiment "don't you dare tell my kids about your god(s)" is pretty much universal. It's funny, but one of our more sarcastic skeptics, Len, had an issue with it on Facebook. Religion appears to more closely resemble another body part instead. Obviously, that sentiment is one of the major inspirations behind the Rock Beyond Belief festival coming up at Fort Bragg, NC (March 31st 2012). Which is more … [Read more...]

Army’s Spiritual Fitness is a move from Street Fighter 2

Check out these links before they disappear: Aberdeen Proving Grounds (Army base in Maryland) - The image below is their only content for spiritual fitness. HADOUKEN! YOGA FIRE! YOGA FLAME! HADOUKEN! http://www.youtube.com/embed/IrFmzzNZcLk? Also, the same image appears on the Army's Hooah4Health website. Look at how hard they hit the thesaurus to tell you that "Spiritual Fitness" (which is to be the domain of the Military's Religious Support Office [RSO] and the Chaplaincy) is … [Read more...]

Command’s “Strategies of Satan: How to detect, defeat him” sent to everyone

I get Email... and on this day, so did every other person on the entire post. And it didn't even come from a Chaplain's e-mail address, rather the command itself. Which wouldn't necessarily be a problem if it weren't so overwhelmingly one-sided. This is the same post that denied me the opportunity to distribute Atheist cupcakes or host an Ask An Atheist Night event. A bit of good news came of this though. I sent a letter replying to the command group about the inappropriate nature … [Read more...]
