Navy ship’s Christmas party fundraiser lead to the Navy’s “1st gay kiss” photo

Apparently, there is a tradition involving a raffle with an interesting prize: first person off the ship!

Petty Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta, an ‘out’ lesbian, won the raffle shortly before returning from 80 days at sea on Wednesday.

This photograph captured an amazing moment at the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek in Virginia Beach, VA. No longer shackled by DADT, Gaeta enjoys a moving kiss with her girlfriend of two years, Petty Officer 3rd Class Citlalic Snell.

This moment was brought to you by Christmas!

“Sailors and their loved ones bought $1 raffle tickets for the opportunity. Gaeta said she bought $50 of tickets ['fewer than many people buy,' she told the Virginian-Pilot]. The Navy said the money would be used to host a Christmas party for the children of sailors.”

Evangelicals in the Chaplaincy, and elsewhere are notoriously the most outspoken critics of allowing homosexual heroes like these two to even ‘admit’ they are gay. Evangelicals are extremely over-represented in the chaplaincy, compared to the service members that they supposedly serve.

It’s entirely possible, if not likely that an evangelical just ‘turned Christmas gay’ in Virginia Beach.

I’m glad to see people are finally waking up to the fact that love is preferable to hate.

This is simply a gorgeous photograph.

No need to objectify the women, Mr. EO complaint against pasta.

They look so perfectly at ease. That’s what love looks like.

Much better than the cringe-inducing akwardness of the infamous Al and Tipper Gore kiss of so long ago.

Having been at many “returns from away” in my life, as my old man is in the RCN and has done dozens of trips, including Bosnia and Afghanistan, I can tell you that the moment when you get to see your loved one again is always beautiful.

It doesn’t matter how long they’ve been gone for, or how dangerous it was where they went. It’s a moment of simple, pure joy for those who are in love. Congrats to POs Gaeta and Snell, for winning the raffle, for being in love, and for sharing something inspirational.

As a former SSgt in the ANG and Army, I fully support the end of DADT. Its time has passed and never should have been in place. This makes our military stronger not weaker and for those that do not like it, well you do not have to reenlist!

Now what we need are Atheist Chaplains that can serve those who are of no faith or free thinkers, just let me know how to sign up.

I started the movement to remove a religious “Christian” flag from the Veterans Memorial in King, NC. Veterans are of all faiths and non-faith and all should be honored at a Veterans Memorial. When you place one’s religion above another’s you dishonor all.

I will be at Ft. Bragg to Rock the Fort!
