Atheist birthday cake!

Today is my birthday. This was just left on my facebook wall. Hadn't seen it before. Cute. :) … [Read more...]

Is redemption possible without Jesus Christ?

On my Facepalm, I'm getting inundated with Happy Birthday wishes. (Thanks, naturally!) Some are funny and clever, and some even have images. My grandmom even posted this picture of me (right) But this message was a bit odd. ...and we’ll go down the line, yes or no answers only, please: Do you believe redemption is possible without Jesus Christ? ( if anyone knows Brian Williams or another future moderator…) Happy Birthday! This was my reply: If you are asking from a theological point … [Read more...]

Anti-gay nurse Lincy T. Pandithurai terminated from Dallas V/A Hospital

The incredibly shocking story of Marine Corps veteran Esther Garatie went viral here a few months ago. She left a Dallas VA Hospital absolutely determined to kill herself, after a 3 hour rant from nurse Lincy Pandithurai about her 'lifestyle of sin'. This monster will no longer be able to terrorize gay and lesbian veterans. Only days ago, I was in Dallas speaking to a large gathering of atheists (Fellowship of Freethought). I couldn't resist dedicating the last bit of my time to spreading … [Read more...]

Oklahoma politician attempting to reinstate Don’t Ask Don’t Tell

State legislator Mike Reynolds is an Air Force veteran. He's also a Southern Baptist, which shouldn't matter at all because he is a politician and not a preacher. But invariably the opposition to gay rights comes from a religious motivation. Not this time though. Apparently Mike Reynolds is motivated because some troops asked him to re-instate the policy. Tulsa World has the story: OKLAHOMA CITY - A bill being proposed by a state lawmaker would reinstitute the controversial "don't ask, … [Read more...]

Jedi dog tags are actually 100% legit

Kris Thomas Flory just added his dog tags to the pile in the American Atheists Military group on Facebook. Kris Flory: Today was my last day in the US military. These tags cause a minor shit storm when I had them made by another soldier on an army tag making machine at our mobilization station prior to deploying to Africa. Anybody else have "official" tags? Thanks for the service, hero! The government legally can't decide which religions are 'true religions'. The dog tags are not … [Read more...]

Han Solo, early foxhole atheist

A long time ago, in a galaxy redundantly far away... humans evolved (somehow.) One of the earliest foxhole atheists was Han Solo. Potentially the first foxhole atheist. Click image to emwiden and embiggen. (For the wallpaper at 1680 x 1050) or click here to just embiggen "Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." The artwork itself is inspired by The Brian Jonestown Massacre's cover art for their 1998 LP "Strung out in Heaven". In case … [Read more...]

With (Facebook) friends like these…

Who needs NME's? (or Melody Makers for that matter)** I think I was just the victim of a clever attempt to block me on Facebook.  I was accepting the friend requests on my Facebook account. I noticed 2 or 3 of them were not actually friend requests. Instead they were 'suggested friends', allowing me to request them. So I clicked the button. I thought to myself "that's nice of them, finding me some more foxhole atheists to interact with, or other interested people..." I was wrong. A few … [Read more...]

Disgraced chaplain lies, and prays that Rev. Barry Lynn dies

Dishonored ex-chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt was fired from the Navy. His leadership documented him violating regulations about wearing the military uniform to protests and political rallies. It was not about 'In Jesus Name', it was about protesting in front of the White House. But Klingenschmitt makes a living lying about his situation. He's one of those evangelicals who are so blinded to reality that they kind of lose their grip. His single-minded focus and passionate drive are … [Read more...]

Foxhole atheist Justin Griffith’s first speech

Last year I was invited to speak at several national conferences, but could not attend a single one because I was deployed. I gave this speech in Fort Lauderdale Florida last month, at the FLASH / American Atheists regional meetup. It was my first official public speaking engagement. http://www.youtube.com/embed/9ryGnr7nKtY? I had to follow a pretty awesome talk from my boss, Dave Silverman. To my relief, there was plenty of applause and laughter in all the right places. A fellow … [Read more...]
