“The military needs god’s protection not some wacko like you”

I am the recipient of comments.

Sometimes I’ll get a rapid-fire volley from a single person, too impulsive to resist the warm embrace of the ‘submit’ button. Their brains are mid-explosion, possibly their underpants too. Like this:

This person says that I need to get out of the military and America. Then he went on for 10 minutes submitting five separate comments on the same post.

  1. Sick of wackos says:

JUSTIN GRITTITH…GET OUT OF THE MILITARY AND AMERICA. YOUR KIND IS TAKING AMERICA DOWN……THE MILITARY NEEDS GOD’S PROTECTION NOT SOME WACKO LIKE YOU.

IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE DON’T BELIEVE. IF YOU REALLY WAS STRONG IN YOUR NONBELIEF YOU WOULDN’T BE DOING THIS. IT IS SAD AND PATHETIC

  2. Sick of wackos says:

ALSO, IS SAY ANYONE OF FAITH…GET OUT OF THE MILITARY AND LET THE FEW PATHETIC HEROS OF NON BELIEF FIGHT……WONDER HOW LONG THAT WOULD LAST

  3. Sick of wackos says:

And, since when did cowards and whiners get called “An american hero?” How pathetic…….these kind just ruin the military and try to undermine it….if this wasn’t so sad it would be laughable

  4. Sick of wackos says:

one more thing…..how many true foxholes have you really been in or any of your non believers….that would be an interesting survey….

  5. Sick of wackos says:

He is not brave hero…the men who have faced the enemy and died or lived, are the heros. Holding signs and taking the main focus of the military off of it’s real mission…that is wrong. If you don’t like it, get out….No one is making you and you are putting the lives of our young men in danger. They need encouragement. True Heros are not like you.

Yeah. Not much you can say to this.

The last few days have been rough. That soldier who was allegedly murdered for being atheist… these people capitalize on our fear and their ignorance knows no bounds. It’s our job to change the conversation so far that they are as radical as the KKK in mainstream America.

Out of the closet. Now.

ALL CAPS MAKES THINGS I SAY TRUE!!!1!

  • Jasmyn

And if he were so confident in his faith, he’d kneel down in some closet alone and pray for America and you.

    What a pathetic tool.

  • annie

I think I have a headache now from reading all those caps. What a nut. Say what you want to say, and move on. These multiple comments every few minutes are a sure sign of some disorder I am not qualified to diagnose. I kind of feel bad for the guy who wrote them… living his life under this false idea that he knows everything.

You are a socialist, and a nazi, and a pedophile, and a communist, and you like the golden girls, and a muslim, and a jew, and a pro choice baby killer, and a evil person, and shark with a laser on your head, and a drunkard, and a welfare single mother, all because you are an atheist, i bet you abort babies for fun on a saturday nite.

Or maybe not. Keep up the good work, and see you in 2 weeks! You are my hero, standing up for the rest of us.

So… you should get out of the military because you’re a nonbeliever… and he also thinks people of faith should get out of the military? Sounds like he’s just against the military existing in general, then.

  • Nate

Hey, I like the Golden Girls. I really wish that stigma came with nontheism.

  • Old_Warhorse

“Yeah. Not much you can say to this.”

Well, except that the individual calling their self ‘Sick of wackos’ is obviously that of which he/she is sick, as well as rather dim witted.

  • Lee

Hey Justin, thanks for taking the reigns on this and the rock beyond belief concert. My only complaint with the concert would be why you didn’t schedule this before I got out. When I first heard this was happening I was in utter disbelief. I was certain the higher ups would squash this before it ever got off the ground, or some fanatics would try and intervene any way they could. So from one atheist to another, thank you.

  • Sly

How fragile and weak his faith must be, to feel the need to attack you so vehemently.

I would feel sorry for him if he weren’t so purposefully ignorant.

I hope he hasn’t bred yet.

Best of luck with the show!!!

    Sly

  • Justin Griffith

Nate, thank you for being a friend.

  • stubby

I appreciate your service, Justin. Both as a soldier and atheist. As a 40 year old who was only able to accept being an atheist very recently I have tremendous respect for people like you who are so outspoken. Keep up the good work!

  • Alverant

Whoever this man is, he’s a real jerk. I bet he hasn’t put anyone needs before his own before. At one point he was a cute little baby. What happened to make him into this hateful person?

  • Gregory

According to the religious nutters, it is God’s will that busloads of young children die in horrific car crashes, that thousands of people die from tornadoes and earthquakes, that tens of thousands are killed by tsunamis and millions are killed every year by starvation, disease and simple poverty.

And then they say that God will somehow protect them? From what? God’s own psychotic episodes of mass murder?

  • Atheist in the south

He might want to get down on his knees and pray to god for the ability to write clearly and spell properly.

Keep up the good work, Justin. We need more atheists to come out and show the world that we are just regular people, living normal lives and raising our kids.

  • Tony

…THE MILITARY NEEDS GOD’S PROTECTION NOT SOME WACKO LIKE YOU.

Yeah, like help from the imaginary guy in the sky is going to do so much in a combat situation. Why does America need god’s protection? Has he been withholding it all this time? Did she change the channel and forget about us?

  • ‘Tis Himself, OM

What are the bets that the number of minutes that Sicko Wacko has served in the military is approaching zero?

Now, my old man is a (Canadian) vet of Bosnia and Afghanistan, and I basically grew up at the local legion talking to WW2 and Korea vets. And I’ve also read a lot of books on wars from the Greek and Persian Wars forward. I’ve even seen a lot of war movies, though I know those aren’t accurate.

And I’ve never once, not at all, seen or heard of a guy named “God” show up and shoulder a fucking rifle and get his buddies out of the hole they were pinned down in by enemy fire. I never actually saw “God” show up at the head of the cavalry in the eleventh hour. “God” was not a Roman legionnaire nor an English longbowman at Zama or Agincourt.

I did see a movie where a guy named Jesus did some of that, but he was a Hispanic fellow from Mexico who immigrated to the US and joined the army. So I don’t think it counts.

Jason, I’m certain that you already know that you deserve nothing but praise for standing up to bullies, never mind for serving your country because you think it’s the right thing to do and not because you think that you’re stacking up brownie points with Santa Claus.

I’m certain that you also know that very few of us receive what our reptile-brain-parts think we deserve (no, no red carpets laid out for virtuous people in my part of the world either).

But, having said that, gotta say, You Rock Jason! Some of us =have= noticed. And! thanks for giving us the opportunity to mock the imbecile who hasn’t learned that Commenting While Drunk never works out as planned.
