Why having Nate Phelps at Fort Bragg is important

People are starting to make noise about Nate Phelps joining the Reason Rally lineup last week. And for good reason: the Westboro Baptist Church / God Hates Fags hate-speech advocates may be clashing face to face with Nate (son of the infamous patriarch behind WBC, and blood-relative to nearly all them.)But I don't think word has gotten out that Nate is also slated to speak at Fort Bragg's upcoming atheist festival. This will bring Nate's story full circle in a triumphant way. … [Read more...]

Is our radio advertisement for the atheist festival over the top?

Well yes, yes it is. But we like to have fun here.Rock Beyond Belief radio adThis is our 'demo tape' for the atheist festival on Fort Bragg. We'd only do something along these lines for the rock station. NPR just doesn't seem like a good place for "AIDEN WILL RUIN YOUR FAMILY AND DESTROY YOUR CIVILIZATION!" I'd give anything to hear Ira Glass say that though. We had trouble not laughing as Lance said "Freedom isn't free, but this festival is." That phrase is in one of our cadences, and I … [Read more...]

Military gets nervous when I use Words Such As Burn

After lyrics to Aiden's song Hysteria were intentionally taken out of context to imply that we were going to burn down churches... well Fort Bragg got a little nervous. But I'm proud of them, they really came through the 'crisis' in a big way.We are now specifically guaranteed the right "to be critical of organized religion and it's adherents." In writing, no less. But we are still puzzled by the people who really believe we intend to burn churches! (Including chaplains!)How am I … [Read more...]

Best reaction to “Footprints in the Sand” Jesus poster EVER.

This is from the late 90's sleeper hit 'Outside Providence'. The young boy is explaining the Footprints picture/poem to his older brother's friend, a guy named Drugs Delaney.Drugs is in top form.www.youtube.com/embed/cwN8ZUKFv9A?Yep. He pretty much sums up how I answer apologists who blather along similar lines. Watch the movie, if you haven't already. Definitely worth it. … [Read more...]

“The military needs god’s protection not some wacko like you”

I am the recipient of comments.Sometimes I'll get a rapid-fire volley from a single person, too impulsive to resist the warm embrace of the 'submit' button. Their brains are mid-explosion, possibly their underpants too. Like this:This person says that I need to get out of the military and America. Then he went on for 10 minutes submitting five separate comments on the same post.Sick of wackos says:March 17, 2012 at 4:49 pmJUSTIN GRITTITH…GET OUT OF THE MILITARY AND AME … [Read more...]

Richard Dawkins photoshopped into army fatigues = offensive? Fixed!

I forgot that last time I posted Richard Dawkins photoshopped into the soldier ACU digital camouflage, that some service members were kind of offended. I want to make up for it.I'll just leave this here.I just hope Richard lets me down gently if he doesn't like it. Anybody know if "The Redcoats are coming" context is commonly known over there?Anyway, come check out Richard Dawkins for free on a military base. There is no 'sold out' or other such worries, as we secured the e … [Read more...]

Prosecutor refuses to pursue murder of atheist soldier as hate crime

I don't have real words for this. This is why we can't back down, and we can't fail. If America needs to have this conversation, so be it. Atheists think about and care about all the same shit you do. We ask all the same questions. We just sometimes have a different answer.Spc. Jose Ramirez was allegedly murdered by his friend Justin Green because he was an atheist.A criminal complaint against the group, shows that Green’s sister believes he killed Ramirez “because Ramirez did not believe i … [Read more...]

“Nice chest hair, asshole.” This one’s for you, reddit.

Reddit's atheist community has been extremely kind to the Rock Beyond Belief festival.Without their overwhelming support and pleas for me to keep them informed, I might have given up.But a recent picture in a news story made me think back to a surreal moment on reddit. One of my favorite things that I learned from reddit was how to take criticism. Especially extremely harsh but still funny criticism. The first really jarring experience came from December 2010 - 3 months into planning … [Read more...]
