Growing a set of principles

For some reason, Lousy Canuck defends lies about me while he talks about*  a man who was kicked off this blogging network for the exact type of harassment that we all rail against. He argues that we're all living in different parallel universes. I think he's right. *(holiday edit) And then there’s when Greg Laden says he wants to kick Justin Griffith’s ass for defending the serial harassers, and that’s a breach of protocol worthy of condemnation and drumming out of the movement and … [Read more...]

Dolly the cat has been adopted!

Fort Bragg area animal rescue, Thundering Paws, has found a new home for Dolly! You may remember that my wife rescued and nurtured this (then) very pregnant abandoned cat for weeks. We were about to move and Dolly needed a home. In an extremely unfortunate turn of events, a man who was temporarily fostering her in place of his sick mother, attempted to drown Dolly the cat. At one point he claimed the cat was 'from hell' and 'evil', though he may just as easily have been cruel without … [Read more...]

Greg Laden posts a home address and employer contacts for online rival

This is really vile. I don't care what you think about your opponent in an argument. You never ever do this: That link contained what he hoped was Mykeru's home address. Only it wasn't his home, it was his ex-wife's home, and that was years ago. Even then, she may not even live there anymore! Some other family may be targeted by whatever plot Laden may have hoped to inspire by dropping dox. Also included in that link was this actual photograph of the building: Seriously, WTF!? I … [Read more...]

Washington Times op-ed: “West Point is religious”

Shirley Husar at the Washington Times, wrote an attack piece against atheist West Point Cadet Blake Page. It veers into histrionics rather quickly: If the founders didn’t intend to require that cadets be Catholics or Baptists, they also clearly didn’t intend that they be atheists. Page therefore found himself in a system designed not to eliminate atheists, but still not intended to make them comfortable. The values with which the Academies want to instill cadets are not specifically … [Read more...]

OK Atheists: I reserve the right to circumcise the unsynagogued

That's right, the Oklahoma Atheists podcast hosts, Damion Reinhardt and Chas Stewart, reserve the right to circumcise the unsynagogued. Watch out all you heathen anteaters. Actually, the host's statement wasn't a non-sequiter at all. It an absurdist reduction of a military chaplain's proclamation, "I reserve the right to evangelize the un-churched." That chaplain refused my request for him to stop bothering me and leaving pamphlets on my desk. He left me twice as many pamphlets after … [Read more...]

“Is having no head the same as be bald?”

A particularly annoying nagnostic named George showed up to the comments a few days back. Some of us engaged him. Articulett of Debunking Christianity fame mopped the floor with him. It was funny, and it was over. Or not, it seems. Now, George has apparently worked out an ingenious way to still refer to atheism as a religion. Is having no head the same as be bald? Why don't you tell us, George? You be expert. The rest of George's comment was pretty funny in that smarmy yet … [Read more...]

Mary had a little lamb… of god… that belongs in schools – FIXED

By now you've likely seen the divisive "Mary had a little lamb... of god... that belongs in the schools" variant on Facebook. Mary had a little lamb, His fleece was as white as snow. And everywhere that Mary went, The Lamb was sure to go. He followed her to school each day, ‘Twasn’t even in the rule. He made the children laugh and play, To have a Lamb at school. And then the rules all changed one day, Illegal it became; To bring the Lamb of God to school, Or even speak His … [Read more...]

FIXED: idiotic “it was 11 days before Christmas, at 9:38″

The original viral image comes attached with a truly awful poem: twas' 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38 when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate. their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air. they could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there. they were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say. they remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day. "where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse. "this is heaven." … [Read more...]

WTF, yoga person!

It's obviously not just evangelicals and uninformed Christians spinning a national tragedy on their metaphysical terms. Here's one from a yoga instructor. You see, the real 'tragedy' is that people are calling it a 'tragedy'. Brace yourself: The comments and 'likes' were awful too. People said things like "that was beautiful!"
