BlagHag plague hits close to home. PZ Myers has military backup

Today I noticed that PZ Myers courageously continued his fight against the caturday plague. PZ alerted all of us at FTB to the sinister plans of Jen McCreight who adopted a kitten over at BlagHag. Those freaking cat hairs stick to my uniforms, and I am declaring war. I bred these anti-caturday warriors myself. Sick 'em boys. Methinks it's a Courage Wolf! I was wondering what else could possibly be done to preempt the cute overload... But then it happened. My daughter, Zoe, … [Read more...]

My daughter thinks daddy lives in the computer

She definitely knows me, even though I've been gone for quite some time. Zoe is our first, and she is 7 months old now. I get to watch her grow up while deployed thanks to webcam technology. Many veterans of previous wars relied upon slow correspondence through letters or they used the phone every few weeks. I get so much more, and I'm grateful. Recently I even told my niece that I lived in the computer, and that I was hungry. She 'fed' me chips that she was snacking on. My family wasn't … [Read more...]

Yes, we are aware that Fort Bragg hasn’t added us to their calendar (yet)

Thank you all for writing in so frequently. I wish I could respond to every letter I get, but I really do read them all. Please keep them coming - it's like a care package every day! Some of you have noticed that the Fort Bragg events calendar hasn't been fleshed out to include Rock Beyond Belief on March 31st, 2012. Relax, for now. I've specifically requested and was approved to get this and many other forms of public visibility from the base. We'll be on the various event calendars. Posters … [Read more...]

Thank You Fort Bragg

Rock Beyond Belief’s earliest attempts were not taken seriously by Fort Bragg, as visitors may remember. However, the situation has changed drastically in the months since our first approach fell through. Fort Bragg’s Garrison Commander, Colonel Sicinski has made the right call, and has now approved our event with the full government support that was promised. There is a tangible momentum building in the foxhole atheist community, and we’ve reached a flash point. Our voices will be … [Read more...]

TX Congressmen to force Christian prayer over my dead body.

Texas lawmakers want Christian groups to be permitted to use Christian themes, prayers, speeches *without seeking consent* in every single military veteran funeral statewide. But that's not how the story is being told. I love being in the military, and I consider it an honor to serve this country. It makes me sad to hear about something like this. At least three Texas-based U.S. congressmen (all of whom self-identify with the Tea Party) are using military funerals for political gain: Ted Poe … [Read more...]

Why do Christians go to church… LOL WUT?

I was checking the recent search term results to this website a few days back.  That's when I came across this 'gem'. I laughed pretty hard at the absurd search term. I'm not really sure how I'm saposed to answer this question. The thought of someone typing that into Google as if they expected to learn the answer to that question is also peculiar. A very silly drunk person, I sapose. I guess I can kind of apply a beer-filter and guess at what they were trying to say. I think they might … [Read more...]

RBB finally featuring RSS

Quick note - I somehow neglected to have any way for people to subscribe to these posts via RSS. Anyway - here's the RSS feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/RockBeyondBelief It seems that RSS has been the gold standard for blog readership for quite some time. So I must look pretty dense. So I might as well ask you guys: Do you guys use RSS? Do you use it for anything besides reading blogs? What's the 'best' reader? Am I doing it right yet? … [Read more...]

PandaMania Bible Summer Camp… Mascot Fail

I'm sure many of you will remember last week's story about the Fort Bragg Garrison Chaplain's annual Vacation Bible School. It turns out that many of our members are familiar with VBS products. Apparently, there are a few companies that launch new VBS packages every couple of years. This year, parents who sign the permission slip from the Fort Bragg schools are signing their children up for the PandaMania VBS package. Our lively Facebook community had responses filled with witty Panda … [Read more...]

Brave Army Captain On the Dangers of Fighting Proselytism

I get a lot of touching comments, and letters of support from inside and outside of the military. The Rock Beyond Belief team has a few officers on board, but this letter comes from a Captain who understands the complications keeping most of my fellow team members, and foxhole atheists in general, from publicly identifying themselves. In case the reader is unaware, simply speaking out in the military is not easy. And standing up for what is right when it comes to religion and proselytism is … [Read more...]
