The single best video ever made about foxhole atheists (possibly NSFW)

This is that rare combination of well-informed reporting and genuinely funny brash sarcasm. Raleigh-based A-News is the DIY equivalent to the Daily Show / Colbert Report for atheists. I have no idea why this show isn't already massively popular. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhKKLhGijuQ This entire episode is dedicated to the recently reinvigorated struggle for acceptance by foxhole atheists. Is it too early to say 'the New Foxhole Atheists'? I'm proud to be one of the major players … [Read more...]

Can you sing? Do you want to support the troops with your voice? Are you free on March 31st, 2012? My awesome production manager, Chip Matthews, just sent me this. "Seeking vocal artists for an a capella group rendering of the  National Anthem. Please have experience singing in a group without musical accompaniment. #OccupyFortBragg March 31st 2012 – bring blanket

Foxhole Atheists are on the cusp of real change. We need your help. We need you to care. We are the 20+% We've been silenced, threatened, intimidated, and treated as 'un-American' for too long. The non-religious military community is the DoD's second largest religious demographic, outnumbering the next largest group by two orders of magnitude. Across the globe, non-theists in uniform are starting to seek each other out and shed the fear of discovery. The epicenter of the changing atmosphere … [Read more...]

BlagHag plague hits close to home. PZ Myers has military backup

Today I noticed that PZ Myers courageously continued his fight against the caturday plague. PZ alerted all of us at FTB to the sinister plans of Jen McCreight who adopted a kitten over at BlagHag. Those freaking cat hairs stick to my uniforms, and I am declaring war. I bred these anti-caturday warriors myself. Sick 'em boys. Methinks it's a Courage Wolf! I was wondering what else could possibly be done to preempt the cute overload... But then it happened. My daughter, Zoe, … [Read more...]

Yes, we are aware that Fort Bragg hasn’t added us to their calendar (yet)

Thank you all for writing in so frequently. I wish I could respond to every letter I get, but I really do read them all. Please keep them coming - it's like a care package every day! Some of you have noticed that the Fort Bragg events calendar hasn't been fleshed out to include Rock Beyond Belief on March 31st, 2012. Relax, for now. I've specifically requested and was approved to get this and many other forms of public visibility from the base. We'll be on the various event calendars. Posters … [Read more...]

Calling all foxhole atheists – fill out THIS version of the Spiritual Fitness test.

That's right, there is research being done into that offensive mandatory Spiritual Fitness testing and training. I was shocked at the test, and surprised that I was the first person to even call it out. Please fill out this new version of the test no matter if you are Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps... Active, Reserve, National Guard. If you are a CURRENT OR VETERAN U.S. Military service member: (Update: civilians can click here) CLICK HERE FOR THE NEW TEST U.S. Military Personnel and … [Read more...]

U.S. Army says: Spiritual people make better soldiers

I was shocked that I was the first person to 'break' the story of the Army's *mandatory* Spiritual Fitness testing, and the equally mandatory remedial training that comes with it when you fail. Hours of remedial Spiritual Fitness training - so that I don't commit suicide because I'm an atheist. So is 'Spiritual Fitness' about religion? There are two different and conflicting responses coming from DoD. One line paints a rosy picture where "Spiritual" means team spirit or human spirit.  … [Read more...]

Bad Religion T-shirt got soldier ejected from Dining Facility

Okay, so you might be able to see this one coming. But I think you should read SGT Daniel Kloberdanz full account of the story. He's not screaming for anybody's head or making a huge ordeal about it. It just came up in a conversation he and I had about a band we both like. It's worth sharing though, and I really like his take on it. And most importantly, I like how unafraid he is to be a foxhole atheist. More of this, please. It started with a common theme I see in my email box, a suggestion … [Read more...]

There are only atheists in foxholes.

I just finished reading J. Anderson Thomson's why we believe in god(s). When I saw this, I knew I had to share it. A few months ago, MASH Fort Bragg hosted J. Anderson Thomson for our monthly speaker series. It was brilliant and engaging, and quite a few people showed up.   He didn't even flinch when I told him that our group was forced to meet in our member's houses. We are still banned from meeting on post until approved by the Chaplaincy (now 7 months into the process...) We're … [Read more...]

TX Congressmen to force Christian prayer over my dead body.

Texas lawmakers want Christian groups to be permitted to use Christian themes, prayers, speeches *without seeking consent* in every single military veteran funeral statewide. But that's not how the story is being told. I love being in the military, and I consider it an honor to serve this country. It makes me sad to hear about something like this. At least three Texas-based U.S. congressmen (all of whom self-identify with the Tea Party) are using military funerals for political gain: Ted Poe … [Read more...]
