Chaplains hand out anti-gay, anti-jewish ‘Manga Messiah’ hate comic

Talk2Action has picked up the story of the awful 'Manga Messiah' comics that are being handed out to deployed soldiers. They're also used in Uganda to brainwash kids against Jews, gays, and witches.via Talk2Action:The publisher claims that millions of copies of Manga Messiah have been distributed in countries around the globe, from Uganda to Guatemala to Great Britain. And, according to ... Justin Griffith, who also serves as the Military Director for American Atheists, Manga Messiah … [Read more...]

DoD’s top chaplains finally discussed letting atheists meet on post

After years of trying to get the military to formally recognize and support atheist groups equally, an answer may be forthcoming. It's a no-brainer from a legal standpoint. Establishment Clause, EEO, Limited Public Forum... pick your poison. Unfortunately, it really could go either way - potentially begging a massive lawsuit.I have it on good authority that after over a year of stalling, the Armed Forces Chaplains Board finally discussed the issue. It's still not even clear if they've made a … [Read more...]

Christians should eat free food with Fort Bragg atheists on Saturday

Todd Stiefel takes an unconventional approach to philanthropy. He put up the $50,000 at American Atheists that made our festival possible via his Stiefel Freethought Foundation. That represents 100% of the funding.Last week, we were discussing ways to soften the blow that many Christians feel we are inflicting. We're not attacking them at all, but it's been portrayed as such by many prominent religious leaders (including Chaplains). Todd mentioned that his wife was a Christian, and that he's … [Read more...]

19,000 service members raped or sexually assaulted in 2010

You may have seen Jon Stewart speak about the insanity from Fox News personality Liz Trotta. It was brutal. He championed the natural facepalm reaction to her comments in a glorious way. It was funny, but it still made you want to cry, or scream. I actually yelled at my TV.media.mtvnservices.com/embed/mgid:cms:video:thedailyshow.com:408330Crazy talk.Reap has an article from last year that noticed the trend.Representative Jackie Speier,  who also told the  House of Re … [Read more...]

Spiritual Fitness: “Chaplains are advocates for everyone”

The above image is part of that mandatory Spiritual Fitness training you (yes, you) can help us debunk! Participate in that survey to help scientists help foxhole atheists. We are still banned on post because of a single sentence in the Chaplain regulations (AR 165-1)"DFGLs will not conduct services before approval by the IMCOM or MEDCOM Command Chaplains."This means we can't even meet in some gazebo on post. Or near a dumpster. Not allowed, and we've been reminded by them several times. T … [Read more...]

Air Force squadron sings ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’ during mandatory prayers

Julie M. wrote to me with a pretty funny story:Hi,Good luck. My air force brother asked me to forward this. He hopes you’ll get a kick out of it.He had a squadron commander who liked group prayer. This made two men in my brother’s crew uncomfortable.Solution, organize the whole squadron to hum Mary had a little lamb very softly during prayers. Prayers stopped.Hilarious. I suppose that's one way to make like a shepherd and get the flock out of there!I can't see this str … [Read more...]

Iraqi Christian groups winning the war for the US?

I was following this story in the Fort Bragg newspaper, Paraglide up until this point:Being able to come to the U.S. to talk with their fellow Christians has strengthened the relationship between the Iraqi and U.S. pastors and creates an even stronger partnership.“I believe the best way to connect with each other is between each other’s churches. To be able to keep the communication between us, it maintains our relationship and bond,” said Francis.“America wants a secure, stable Iraq,” … [Read more...]

Cold War account of why Mormons were over-represented as military translators

This is an excerpt from a very funny atheist Army veteran.I had no idea that many Mormons use/used the military as a way to learn languages for their missionary work. It makes sense.Late in her career, she describes being harassed simply for being pregnant or a woman, etc. The harassers were the same religious people who spent so much time trying to convert her.I was in from 1987-1990 during the end of the cold war when interrogators went to language school for a year or so.But the … [Read more...]
