Why the move?

Click for the classic scene.

The chief motivation for moving the RBB blog to Patheos is to circumvent the increasingly frequent blocking of our site at many military bases. These bases allow similar content from religious perspectives, so it's not just some blanket policy on blogs. Frankly, this is likely to come up again (and again). Even the main website for the festival we launched was blocked by many military bases, despite the event being largely staffed by DoD personnel. Blogging with ferocious activists like Chris … [Read more...]

Man tries to drown a cat, convinced it was literally ‘from hell’

My wife, Tianna, recently rescued a very pregnant abandoned cat. This cat was extremely friendly with humans, indicating that this is yet another abandoned pet in a military town, in this case Fort Bragg, North Carolina. All three of her kittens are now dead. Friday night we found out that a local man attempted to drown this cat earlier that day. He admitted this to a shocked staff of a local veterinarian's office. He also slammed on her cage repeatedly as he screamed, "This cat is from hell! … [Read more...]

Dangerous messages sent to kids on US Navy bases

The original photograph shows a large advertisement for a Vacation Bible School on a US Navy base. Transportation is included. Equality is not.I'm not sure which base this photograph came from, but it's far from an isolated incident. Here's a write-up in the Periscope, an in-house PR rag for Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay - built on coastal Georgia.“Up, up, and away!” This familiar phrase sets the tone the 2012 Vacation Bible School program. The Command Religious Program of the NSB … [Read more...]

Trolled by Sniper Jesus

It was actually Sniper Jesus that was apparently inserted into the chain of command at a Fort Bragg unit.I still think this was a real photo (the shadow is consistent, albeit from a smaller frame). However, I doubt that this picture would fly very long. It was probably either somebody goofing around, or otherwise trolling. That's why I crowdsourced the verification. Good eye, commenters / Facebook friends! If you know what unit this came from please contact me. I just want to … [Read more...]

Jesus above Obama in chain of command photos, is this real?

Word on the street is that this happened at Fort Bragg. If you know anything about where this photo was taken, please let me know. This is completely inappropriate. It's also illegal to affix religious symbols in, on, or outside of a chapel. This rule has been consistently applied to many contexts including other buildings, walls, doors, and even large outdoor areas on military bases. This is also a violation of EEO, and likely even considered political speech - during a heated election. … [Read more...]
