“The military needs god’s protection not some wacko like you”

I am the recipient of comments. Sometimes I'll get a rapid-fire volley from a single person, too impulsive to resist the warm embrace of the 'submit' button. Their brains are mid-explosion, possibly their underpants too. Like this: This person says that I need to get out of the military and America. Then he went on for 10 minutes submitting five separate comments on the same post. Sick of wackos says: March 17, 2012 at 4:49 pm JUSTIN GRITTITH…GET OUT OF THE MILITARY AND … [Read more...]

“Nice chest hair, asshole.” This one’s for you, reddit.

Reddit's atheist community has been extremely kind to the Rock Beyond Belief festival.Without their overwhelming support and pleas for me to keep them informed, I might have given up. But a recent picture in a news story made me think back to a surreal moment on reddit. One of my favorite things that I learned from reddit was how to take criticism. Especially extremely harsh but still funny criticism. The first really jarring experience came from December 2010 - 3 months into planning … [Read more...]

Religious leaders denounce Spiritual Fitness Test (about time!)

The Pasadena Sun has a great collection of various religious leaders' thoughts on the mandatory Spiritual Fitness testing and training in the US Military. Rev. Skip Lindeman - United Church of Christ: ... Think about it: A guy takes the test and gets all A-grades on spirituality, and then says, “Gimme a gun so I can go kill as many of the enemy as I can!” Is that what a spiritual person does? How can anybody be spiritual, and then go blow another human being (i. e., child of God, made … [Read more...]

Faith itself is the tree without roots. It’s grounded in nothing.

Last week, I brought you a video from Chaplain COL Lembke, referring to Spiritual Fitness. In it, he claimed that, "Life without faith is like a tree without roots". Here it is again: www.youtube.com/embed/CV5BgQVvp4E? There was some spectacular replies from military members, veterans, and our supporters on my Facepalm wall. Gregory S: More like "life without faith is like a dog without a cell phone." Rich W: ‎... or a fish without a bicycle, or a human swimming without an attached … [Read more...]

Praying that a soldier burns in hell – classy.

Recently, the National Atheist Party endorsed the upcoming Rock Beyond Belief festival. On March 31st 2012 at Fort Bragg, The National Atheist Party will be with patriot and proud “Foxhole Atheist” Justin Griffith as he hosts what is sure to be the most fun and  influential secular gathering ever to be held on a military instillation: Rock Beyond Belief Justin, as some of you may know, was a victim of our systems inability to understand those who can and do separate church … [Read more...]

The Magic Sandwich Show, with Aron Ra is about to go live with me. Feel free to connect, and ask some questions. Starts at 2:00 3:00 PM eastern. (EDIT: Too late! Ya blew it!... It was awesome though, and you'll see it on YouTube in the next few days.) … [Read more...]

You should have seen this coming

Facebook netted me another strange troll. Apparently this person forgot why / when he added me (I pretty much never seek others out anymore, but feel free to add me. If you 'suggest friends' to me, you may be rounded up and shot.) This person makes a living off of predicting the future. Check it out: Is that college an X-men reference? Probably a funny guy, and I'm sure we'd have no problem hanging out - drinking beer and what not.   But a cyber-friendship just was not in the … [Read more...]

BBC interviews Justin Griffith, foxhole atheist

First off, Kate Dailey at the BBC wrote a great article. When she first approached me, I was envisioning a segment to be aired right before Doctor Who (naturally), but it turns out this was for a print + radio segment. Still, it was a refreshing conversation and I'm grateful for the exposure it generated (plenty!) This is one of the best representations of our public plea for respect in the military community. She covered the upcoming atheist festival on Fort Bragg. We discussed the offensive … [Read more...]

FOXNews investigates the atheist festival, gets it twisted.

I know that Todd Starnes, and the religious right at Fox News have an agenda.Of course I know this ahead of time. I realize that journalists edit down their interviews, but should strive to do so in an ethical manner. Such 'ethical editing' is not what happened on Friday as Fox News 'reporter' Todd Starnes wrote his story about the festival. But I expected that. Fortunately, I recorded this interview, (thanks for transcribing, Kate!) - It can be read in its entirety at the bottom, but you … [Read more...]

“If the bullets were flying your way faggot boy…”

I receive email. Craig Campbell writes: why can’t you just live and let live,i bet you if the bullets were flying your way faggot boy you’d be praying cockbite,so justin go fuck yourself and its too bad your a minority How do I even 'pray cockbite'? If I catch a religious soldier praying cockbite when bullets are flying, I'd smack him. Even just 'regular prayer', really. He might get us all killed! SHOOT BACK, DUMBASS!!!! This one is less offensive, but the last sentence is … [Read more...]
