First openly gay general in the US Military

Brigadier General Tammy Smith is the first openly gay flag-grade officer in the US Military. At this rank, she'll have thousands of service members quite literally looking up to her. The private ceremony included a twist on an old military tradition. Brig. Gen. Smith's spouse 'pinned' her. In other words, her wife slapped the new rank onto her uniform for the first time. CNN has the story: Smith received her stars in a private ceremony at the Women's Memorial at Arlington National … [Read more...]

Air Force chaplain quits Southern Baptist Convention over gay wedding

On Friday, The Associated Press ran a story chronicling the fallout over the first gay wedding on a military base, at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. Chaplain Col. Timothy Wagoner has abruptly left the Southern Baptist Convention, even though he didn't conduct the ceremony. A few days before the wedding, Col. Wagoner decided to attend as a show of support to the base community, and to Tech. Sgt. Erwynn Umali. Umali no longer has to hide his sexual orientation from his peers in the Air … [Read more...]

First gay wedding on a US Military base

Slate has an excellent article about the first gay wedding on a US military base. These newlyweds actually met in church - a church that is virulently homophobic. Both remain religious, but are finally able to shed a lifetime of shame and fear. It's a great time to be in the military. Tech. Sgt. Military announces ‘Gay Pride Month’

The Army Times ran this AP story last night: WASHINGTON — Last summer, gays in the military dared not acknowledge their sexual orientation. This summer, the Pentagon will salute them, marking June as gay pride month just as it has marked other celebrations honoring racial or ethnic groups. In the latest remarkable sign of change since the military repealed the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, the Defense Department will soon hold its first event to recognize gay and lesbian troops. It comes … [Read more...]

Follow up to Apostolic Truth Tabernacle

Interesting developments... I attempted to contact Apostolic Truth Tabernacle and their pastor Reverend Jeff Sangl to no avail today. I called but the voicemail was full. Apparently I was a little late in attempting to contact them. They have updated their site as linked above and put out a new message on the front page. It does not excuse acts of the past however and in an attempt to reach out I have created a video asking Rev. Sangl to answer some questions for … [Read more...]

Reinstating Gay Oppression in the Military?!?

Last year... I'm sure we all remember the outcry from the liberty hounds when the National Defense Authorization Act last year authorized indefinite detention over U.S. citizens as long as they are accused of 'terrorism' and can be held without trial until the end of the War on Terror (this is currently being challenged in court). This year... Well this year members of Congress are injecting a hateful bigoted religious agenda into the NDAA. The current bill up for vote holds two provisions … [Read more...]

Jesus was gay

That's right, Pastor Sean Harris would have punched baby Jesus - for being gay. Or so says Kenneth Low, author of Dark Knowledge. Kenneth contacted me on Facebook to let me know about his important book. He said: "Allow me to introduce myself. I’m a retired physician living in Davis and author of a book, Dark Knowledge. Essentially a logical argument, it leads the reader to a surprising revelation:  Jesus was gay. I’m opening a new avenue in public secular discussion." This is … [Read more...]
