A short history of RBB, A bit of the future, and a toast to selflessness

It's been really annoying after returning from this final deployment because all the computers I had access to prior were no longer around. So that's been a real doozy. There are also a lot of things going on personally with me as well that have kept me from putting as much time and effort into RBB, which is unfortunate because this is a very important movement. I inherited RBB from Justin Griffith and have taken the lead on it. It was never my intent or end-goal, but it was something I just … [Read more...]

The busyness of business

This seems appropriate It seems like some of us have that figured out. Fortunately, I don't. I hope it stays that way. I've been real busy lately talking to reporters, calling individuals in the military about religious violations, and putting my two cents in with some members of Congress about the upcoming vote for the National Defense Authorization Act (section 530) as well as the Chaplaincy. If there are other people that actually want to make a difference hit me up here. Check out … [Read more...]

Only a Sith…

"You're with me or you're against me" Recently, I've been contemplating speaking my mind on this subject. Actually for a long time. It's rather upsetting in a community that is supposed to adhere to the values of skeptical inquiry, scientific analysis, and rational questioning that we are required as a matter of principle to abandon the aforementioned principles in favor of mindlessly following the ravings of PZ Myers and Co. It's something I've never quite understood or grasped and could never … [Read more...]

Atheism in The Military – Isn’t that Anathema to Authority?

I missed the first half of this interview. I wasn't even sure I would make it. It was interesting but I really didn't get to express everything I wanted to talk about in it. Check it out for yourself: … [Read more...]

Father-to-be, Still an atheist

This weekend my wife and I announced that we are having a baby. It's always nice to share news like that. After being able to share that news with everyone you'd think life would be honky-dory but sometimes you can't go a day without douchebaggery. Family and people I know from my previous life as a believer kept popping in to throw in their two cents about me being an atheist. The best part is that when it's people that are older than me who try to denigrate me "with love" When I was … [Read more...]

I’m off to see the Wizard…

I'll be gone for a few days to do some good ole training. I hope my co-bloggers keep you informed and entertained. -Paul … [Read more...]

Another Marine Corps Controversy from the Same Unit that Believes Atheism is Cause for “risky behavior”

WP_000125

Atheism in the Marines As a Marine who is also an atheist this matter is very concerning to me. After publishing about the Marines classifying atheism as a "risky behavior" a Marine from H&S Battalion in Quantico reached out to me with this: I saw your blog entry about H&S Battalion in Quantico. ┬áThat specific unit has the most fundamentalist leadership, but I specifically blame the influence of this crusty old Roman Catholic Priest that was the chaplain there (I dunno if he still is, … [Read more...]

Dear John Letters….

┬áDear John To whomever you are. There may be some confusion on what it's like to be an atheist in the military. Don't worry! That is okay. I understand. I was a bigoted Christian when I joined the military, too. Fortunately, I've learned what it's like to not judge people based upon some false notion of truth. I'm willing to extend an invitation to you in helping understand that bigotry is wrong. So is lying and intentionally misleading people. Although, I understand mistakes can be … [Read more...]

How a Sitting Congressman And a Retired General Are Trying to Destroy Religious Freedom under the guise of Religious Freedom

Congressman Fleming

I'm sure many of you are now aware that there was a press conference yesterday. It was filled with lies, half-truths, and sold to the American public as an attempt to sway them into believing that Christians are under attack. You can read it here. These are two of the men pushing this legislation:                     The man on the left is retired Lt. General Boykin. He is well-known for his hatred … [Read more...]

Why the move?

Click for the classic scene.

The chief motivation for moving the RBB blog to Patheos is to circumvent the increasingly frequent blocking of our site at many military bases. These bases allow similar content from religious perspectives, so it's not just some blanket policy on blogs. Frankly, this is likely to come up again (and again). Even the main website for the festival we launched was blocked by many military bases, despite the event being largely staffed by DoD personnel. Blogging with ferocious activists like Chris … [Read more...]
