Local church harassing soldiers at Fort Lewis says, “We don’t care about laws”

FORT LEWIS, WA (Joint Base Lewis-McChord) - A group of zealots is infiltrating Fort Lewis regularly for soul-saving raids. They arrive on the base in multiple vehicles in small groups and recruit for their church. This is illegal, and they know it. This is a follow up from one of the soldiers who were harassed and followed by a church group in their vehicles. The car followed him as he walked to the barracks from the on-post Burger King. For reference, here's the first message I … [Read more...]

Heroic whistle-blower in Army’s mandatory candlelight prayer scandal

800 junior soldiers attended mandatory suicide-prevention training, and were given plastic battery-powered candles. A chaplain talked for a while, telling the soldiers they must turn to god to keep themselves going in tough times. Eventually he dimmed the lights and instructed everyone to turn on their candles. The chaplain then lead them in a sectarian prayer to his lord and his heavenly father. The vast majority of the 800 soldiers are fresh out of boot camp, and are being trained in the … [Read more...]

Dangerous messages sent to kids on US Navy bases

The original photograph shows a large advertisement for a Vacation Bible School on a US Navy base. Transportation is included. Equality is not. I'm not sure which base this photograph came from, but it's far from an isolated incident. Here's a write-up in the Periscope, an in-house PR rag for Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay - built on coastal Georgia. “Up, up, and away!” This familiar phrase sets the tone the 2012 Vacation Bible School program.  The Command Religious Program of … [Read more...]

U.S. Military being used as Government-Paid Missionaries

This is a shocking look at proselytizing in the US military. It's from the point of view of the culprits themselves - in their words. It's extremely creepy. www.youtube.com/embed/SB1UifGIqaw? Close allies, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), compiled this from various sources. Some are anonymous leaks, some are promotional videos filmed by military personnel. There are even a few clips from international news (the US media rarely covers this.) … [Read more...]

Fort Meade wants your input about evangelical marriage seminar

The Fort Meade official facebook page has kindly invited all of you to weigh in on this matter. They are asking concerned citizens to fill out an I.C.E. comment card. Please do so! Check below the fold for what I wrote in the comment section, using a modified chunk of the original post. Another military base hires civilians to proselytize to children

Chris Rodda has a great post about what is going on at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska (a base that has been on MRFF’s radar for quite a while) is really ramping up the fundamentalist activities this fall, heavily pushing the “convert everybody” meme. The article on the Elmendorf-Richardson website begins: When Jesus gave his apostles their final orders in Matthew 28:18-20, he didn’t tell them to make converts who would dedicate an hour of … [Read more...]

Proselytizing in Afghanistan

Buddy Jesus wants you to spread the word! This is a pervasive problem within the US Military that I have had a major problem with for many years. The dangers behind this fundamentalist policy can be the actual loss of life to U.S. Servicemembers, many of whom (like myself) are not here to fight a religious battle. www.youtube.com/embed/hy5RnIykfCs? This is a video that was recorded in Afghanistan and shows how the Chaplain was giving them instructions on how to proselytize and what to say … [Read more...]

The writing is on the wall at boot camp (literally)

A brand new foxhole atheist sent me a few pictures from his cell phone. He's in 'hell week' or 'reception week' of basic training. In a few days, his phone will be confiscated by his drill sergeants. He'll get it back when he's a soldier. This is Fort Jackson, SC. These posters are not government issued and are not supposed to be up. Since the command is either unaware or more likely - complicit - they've basically established another weird little 'Limited Public Forum'. All points of view … [Read more...]

Spiritual Fitness “not meant to endorse religion” VS Army’s own videos

These videos may just disappear soon. Grab them while they're hot! They're from the Army's public facing media outreach website. Remember, whenever lawyers and reporters are around, the term 'spiritual fitness' has nothing to do with religion. It's about 'team spirit' and 'human spirit'. So it's not illegal when mandatory... CH (MAJ) Choi - Sunday Stryker Brigade www.dvidshub.net/video/embed/122546 "There's a limit to how much physical ability can sustain a soldier. There's a limit on … [Read more...]

In 1971 Fort Bragg had a mandatory ‘born again’ day

***Guest post from John Kieffer who was with the 2nd Psyops Group with the JFK Center for Special Warfare.*** I'm wondering if there is anyone who may remember this ... In 1971 I was stationed at Ft Bragg and had to attend a mandatory hour long 'fire and brimstone' evangelical Christian sermon by a 4 Star General at the Main Base Chapel. All commissioned officers stationed at Ft Bragg, from the 18th Corps commander (3 star general) down to each and every 2LT (I was a captain), were … [Read more...]
