Winnie The Pooh Would Be Sad

honey-jar

He can't take his honey from the hundred-acre wood to the United States without checking it. Honeygate? The whole point of honeygate, as it is now being called, was to point out the despoilment of our liberties. The voluntary despoilment. We are steadily giving up liberty for safety. Of course this was the perfect opportunity for some internet warriors to attack Dawkins. I'm not particularly interested in defending Dawkins as I do not think he needs my help nor do I feel obligated to help … [Read more...]

News Poll: Should the military host large scale (religious) events?

Fort Bragg Patch reporter, Kelly Twedell, has a nice write-up about how the U.S. Air Force Academy undermined a planned speaking engagement from Richard Dawkins at the last minute. Via Fort Bragg Patch ...The U.S. Air Force Academy has pulled out of their commitment with no concrete reasons to host a previously planned speaking engagement by Richard Dawkins for Monday, Oct. 15, that offered free entry for military families. Back in March Fort Bragg held the "Rock Beyond Belief " atheist … [Read more...]

Richard Dawkins speech at Air Force Base undermined at last minute

The details are still unclear, but the U.S. Air Force Academy is no longer a viable host for a planned Richard Dawkins speaking engagement. Despite the last-minute military venue 'no-go', the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science secured the large Macky Auditorium at the University of Colorado at Boulder for Monday, October 15th. Military members are encouraged to sign up for free tickets! Military ID / uniform gets you and up to three family members free (further … [Read more...]

Former Pastor turned Atheist to speak at Rock Beyond Belief 2!

20 years into the ministry... Teresa MacBain spent more than two decades as a Baptist and Methodist minister under the tutelage of her father. She worked as a worship minister, an associate pastor and a senior pastor of her own church. March of this year she finally stepped out of the religious closet and entered the world of reason. She outed herself in the national spotlight at the American Atheist convention and let the world know that you didn't need to believe in a god to be a good … [Read more...]

PZ does it

PZ does 'it'...? By 'it' I mean 'PZ supports the troops', and not just his son who is an officer in the US Army. Paul Loebe is a foxhole atheist in the United States Marine Corps. Paul is leading a small group of people toward the front line of a subterranean culture war that the evangelicals have been waging in the US Military for decades. That small group is growing. PZ Myers joined the lineup for Rock Beyond Belief 2 in San Diego, CA - Summer 2013. I thought that the first festival … [Read more...]

I was trolled with Silverman, Dawkins, PZ Myers, thunderf00t

The Religious Antagonist was causing quite a stir at the AA Convention in Washington D.C. Everyone was talking about the guy who Richard Dawkins told to 'fuck off'. Nobody warned me, but I think I handled myself alright. www.youtube.com/embed/8H25ADf8I3I?rel=0 He cut out one thing from our conversation. I'm paraphrasing: Religious Antagonist: "Do atheists have bigger holes than foxes?" Justin Griffith: "Yes, because they tend to dig a little deeper if you know what I … [Read more...]

Baba Brinkman writes about the festival

Baba Brinkman slayed the crowd with his extensive lexicon and concise delivery at Fort Bragg last weekend. Then he wrote to all of his fans about it: Last weekend Mr. Simmonds and I traveled to Fort Bragg, NC for Rock Beyond Belief, the historical first on-base rock concert for military non-believers. The day got off to a late start due to a morning downpour, which was gloated over by the spiteful devout but only until about 1pm, and after that the clouds blew over and we had beautiful … [Read more...]

Fort Bragg’s Camp Quest is massive, Dawkins to meet with kids.

I asked Camp Quest, South Carolina's (CQSC) Amy Monsky for a schedule of her activities. I'm super impressed. Look at this thing, it represents so much work. Click to embiggen... this is pretty much amazing. So much is going on there! This is in addition to the 400 pounds of corn starch going into making the 'Oobleck' or non-newtonian fluid. We had to rent cement mixers for this. But kids will literally be able to walk on water (or sink if they stand still) right in front of the main … [Read more...]

Is our radio advertisement for the atheist festival over the top?

Well yes, yes it is. But we like to have fun here. Rock Beyond Belief radio ad This is our 'demo tape' for the atheist festival on Fort Bragg. We'd only do something along these lines for the rock station. NPR just doesn't seem like a good place for "AIDEN WILL RUIN YOUR FAMILY AND DESTROY YOUR CIVILIZATION!" I'd give anything to hear Ira Glass say that though. We had trouble not laughing as Lance said "Freedom isn't free, but this festival is." That phrase is in one of our cadences, and … [Read more...]

Richard Dawkins photoshopped into army fatigues = offensive? Fixed!

I forgot that last time I posted Richard Dawkins photoshopped into the soldier ACU digital camouflage, that some service members were kind of offended. I want to make up for it. I'll just leave this here. I just hope Richard lets me down gently if he doesn't like it. Anybody know if "The Redcoats are coming" context is commonly known over there? Anyway, come check out Richard Dawkins for free on a military base. There is no 'sold out' or other such worries, as we secured the … [Read more...]
