A chaplain is telling Fort Bragg that we plan to burn down churches

FORT BRAGG, NC – Chaplain (Captain) Chuck Williams wrote an open letter on Fort Bragg's Facebook page calling for the cancellation of on-post secular festival Rock Beyond Belief. Cpt. Williams claims, "It has now been made blatantly public by [event] organizers that part of this event will be... glorifying violence against people who possess a faith in God through the burning of churches. This is appalling!" Fort Bragg estimates that 5,000 people will attend the all-day event. It was … [Read more...]

Military Community: ask Richard Dawkins anything

We just released official schedule for the Rock Beyond Belief festival on Fort Bragg 31 March (civilians welcome!) We want to invite any military member, veteran, or military spouse to submit a question in the comments section here. You will notice the "Richard Dawkins Q&A video". It simply must be. There are too many variables that simply need to be locked down according to our contract with Fort Bragg. They did not force our hand, but I'm sure they are relieved to know that we will … [Read more...]

Yes, we are aware that Fort Bragg hasn’t added us to their calendar (yet)

Thank you all for writing in so frequently. I wish I could respond to every letter I get, but I really do read them all. Please keep them coming - it's like a care package every day! Some of you have noticed that the Fort Bragg events calendar hasn't been fleshed out to include Rock Beyond Belief on March 31st, 2012. Relax, for now. I've specifically requested and was approved to get this and many other forms of public visibility from the base. We'll be on the various event calendars. Posters … [Read more...]

Threats to rape and kill atheists? Stay classy, Fox News viewers.

Title says it all. This happened a few days ago, and was buzzing around Reddit and Facebook. In case you missed it - click to embiggen. The one that catches my eye the most is this one: "I love Jesus, and the cross and if you dont, I hope someone rapes you!" by Sindy. Which of course was subsequently 'liked' by 2 more people. I'm baffled. You can't live in fear of Fox News viewers, or else the Tea Partiers have already won... or something. Seriously though, what is this? Is this a … [Read more...]

Dr. J Anderson Thomson Supports Military Atheists

Dr. J Anderson Thomson's 2011 book Why We Believe In God(s): A Concise Guide to the Science of Faith is getting noticed in all the right circles. "This book about the evolutionary drivers of religiosity would have delighted [Darwin].... One by one the components of religion receive the Thomson treatment. Every point he makes has the ring of truth, abetted by a crisp style and vivid imagery. Andy Thomson is an outstandingly persuasive lecturer, and it shines through his writing. This short, … [Read more...]

Richard Dawkins issues Statement of Intent to Fort Bragg

I've been approached by a number of reporters asking a peculiar question. About half the time they only ask about our headliner, Richard Dawkins. "Fort Bragg says that the people in your lineup didn't issue a Statement of Intent to them, a letter saying that they were actually coming. Why not?" Well, they never asked for one. In fact I had never even heard of one until a reporter asked me that question. And I had been assured that our submitted packet had all the pertinent information by … [Read more...]

Richard Dawkins to Speak at Fort Bragg’s Rock Beyond Belief

Richard Dawkins is arguably the most well-known advocate for evolution, biology, and atheism in modern times. We are extremely pleased to announce that Richard will be speaking at our festival on post at Fort Bragg, this Spring. We've certainly come a long way since September 25th, when Franklin Graham (already banned from the pentagon) rolled through Fort Bragg with his Rock the Fort series of events. Our all volunteer group has accomplished much, and at each step we've been excited to break … [Read more...]

Rock Beyond Belief discussed on RichardDawkins.net

The Richard Dawkins discussion group / forum has decided to green light a story about Rock Beyond Belief. We are grateful to the moderators for the thread. I kicked off the discussion with a brief recap of the story so far. Recently, Ft Bragg was 'treated' to an evangelical event called 'Rock the Fort'. Many called for Ft Bragg to cancel the event, with protests from the FFRF, and many allied organizations. They didn't cancel it. In fact, LTG Helmick, the post commander responded by saying that … [Read more...]
