This disgruntled retired chaplain is clearly from outer space

Some of you may remember the atheist-bashing retired chaplain, David Druckenmiller. Days after he retired, he let me know how he really felt about me - and the looming atheist festival. He was an integral part of the event that spawned ours.He is also a robot from outer space. Imagine Mitt Romney but with grammar lessons taken straight from YouTube comments.By request, I'm now releasing the follow up novel comment from Dave. He may have discovered spell-check... but you can't fix stupid. … [Read more...]

MSNBC’s excellent coverage of the upcoming foxhole atheist festival

How has the massive atheist festival on a military base not broken through to network television news? The awesome stuff at Reason Rally probably had something to do with it. But that's over now - so please help us get the word out - now! Finally, MSNBC has some meaningful coverage:After a sometimes painful 18 months of gestation, Sgt. Justin Griffith of Fort Bragg, N.C., exclaims, "My baby is about to be born!" His baby is Rock Beyond Belief, apparently the first major atheist event on a … [Read more...]

Foxhole atheist Justin Griffith’s first speech

Last year I was invited to speak at several national conferences, but could not attend a single one because I was deployed. I gave this speech in Fort Lauderdale Florida last month, at the FLASH / American Atheists regional meetup. It was my first official public speaking engagement. had to follow a pretty awesome talk from my boss, Dave Silverman. To my relief, there was plenty of applause and laughter in all the right places.A fellow … [Read more...]

Little Babies – OM NOM NOM!

It seems we've been caught. My father read my post about working with Chaplains and not against. He saw the piece end with the 'atheist baby-eating' meme, and he felt the urge to call us out. You'll notice that my sister, Nina, is chatting with my wife, Tianna, about how scrumptious our daughter looks on Facebook. The jig is up!My dad is a pretty funny and awesome guy. You may remember his last interaction with this website, when he wished me a happy Easter and also completely debunked all … [Read more...]

ACLU, AU Tells the Army That They Must Approve Atheist Festival

This letterhead is a surefire way to turn some heads:The Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, ACLU, and ACLU North Carolina, and are rallying around the Rock Beyond Belief festival. They delivered an impressive letter to Secretary of the Army, and officials at Fort Bragg yesterday, which you can read here [pdf].They have already recovered hundreds of pages of documents relating to the evangelical Christian festival from 2010, known as Rock the Fort. Their stated goal was … [Read more...]

There are no atheists in foxholes in sandstorms.

This picture was taken of Justin Griffith in (not so) broad daylight. There are no atheists in foxholes in sandstorms. We're too smart for that shit. Very beige In case you were wondering, yes you can dig a foxhole in the desert. Sand doesn't play nice with the most common weapons we use (M16 / M4), and it's not all that common. But it can be done in the desert terrain. But in a sandstorm? The current sandstorm we are going through out here would render digging efforts completely useless. … [Read more...]

Rock the Fort Chaplain Is From the Moon, Writes Foxhole Atheist A Letter

Almost 45 days after the last-minute restrictions forced us to cancel our first approach, a fresh comment appeared on that announcement awaiting moderation. I was blown away at what I saw. Read the original wall of text in its embarrassing entirety here. **Update: Cleaned up formatting of this post can be found here**This is a letter from a (very recently) retired Chaplain, Lieutenant Colonel David Druckenmiller who worked on the controversial Rock the Fort event at Fort Bragg. It's mean and … [Read more...]

Rock Beyond Belief Has Officially Resubmitted With Fort Bragg

It's official - last night, we resubmitted our packet to Fort Bragg for an autumn date.Yesterday, I visited Fort Bragg's Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) office that was assigned to support our first attempt. Later, we officially resubmitted Rock Beyond Belief's packet. I even brought my daughter, Zoe Madalyn Griffith (2 months old now!) She is like a secret weapon because she is so cute. No word back from Fort Bragg or MWR just yet, keep an eye out.Above: Rock Beyond Belief's Project … [Read more...]
