Brave Army Captain On the Dangers of Fighting Proselytism

I get a lot of touching comments, and letters of support from inside and outside of the military. The Rock Beyond Belief team has a few officers on board, but this letter comes from a Captain who understands the complications keeping most of my fellow team members, and foxhole atheists in general, from publicly identifying themselves. In case the reader is unaware, simply speaking out in the military is not easy. And standing up for what is right when it comes to religion and proselytism is … [Read more...]

It's official - last night, we resubmitted our packet to Fort Bragg for an autumn date.Yesterday, I visited Fort Bragg's Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) office that was assigned to support our first attempt. Spiritually Unfit Soldiers FORCED to see Chaplains, to get “born again”

I just received this chilling letter from a Soldier who recently took the mandatory Soldier Fitness Tracker test, shared to me with permission, from the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF).┬áThe name has been withheld out of fear, but I'm assured that this matter is being worked very hard.[note: emphasis mine, and I broke it into paragraphs, as the email communication garbled the formatting.] Before I tell you, Mr. Weinstein and the MRFF of my total outrage at the U.S. Army for … [Read more...]

How a non-theist Soldier fails mandatory Spirituality test

Ed Brayton's popular ScienceBlog: Dispatches From the Culture Wars has been very nice to Rock Beyond Belief. Ed has posted about what we are trying to do with our festival, and has even graciously agreed to emcee the event. Since I broke the dreadful Soldier Fitness Tracker survey story last week, a lot of attention has been devoted to that topic all over the internet. Ed's latest article about that story sparked some interesting commentary that made me realize that people didn't understand how … [Read more...]

Despite rumors: SGT Griffith does exist. Sorry, fundies!

Luckily, there were many articles that summed it all up within hours all over the secular blogosphere. We expect some major developments from a variety of … [Read more...]
