Military’s $3 million anti-suicide nasal spray

Admittedly, this sounds dumb to us in the force. Honestly though, the research being done at Indiana University School of Medicine is pennies-on-the-dollar compared to the ghastly Spiritual Fitness nonsense - the current anti-suicide strategy. INDIANAPOLIS -- Could a nasal spray provide a quick antidote to suicidal thoughts among soldiers? An Indiana University School of Medicine scientist has been awarded a $3 million research grant from the U.S. Army to develop such a system. For Michael … [Read more...]

Congressman told by DoD that all military suicide victims are atheists

In 2009 a part of the US Army called Comprehensive Soldier Fitness (CSF) sprang forward to deal with the rising suicide rate. They spent $125 million taxpayer dollars. They wasted it. The BBC released an article saying that the military's suicide rate has now climbed to roughly one per day. Suicide in the US military has sharply increased this year, hitting a rate of almost one death per day, figures show. As of 3 June, 2012 active-duty suicides reached 154, compared with 130 in the same … [Read more...]

Military announces ‘Gay Pride Month’

The Army Times ran this AP story last night: WASHINGTON — Last summer, gays in the military dared not acknowledge their sexual orientation. This summer, the Pentagon will salute them, marking June as gay pride month just as it has marked other celebrations honoring racial or ethnic groups. In the latest remarkable sign of change since the military repealed the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, the Defense Department will soon hold its first event to recognize gay and lesbian troops. It comes … [Read more...]

Religious leaders denounce Spiritual Fitness Test (about time!)

The Pasadena Sun has a great collection of various religious leaders' thoughts on the mandatory Spiritual Fitness testing and training in the US Military. Rev. Skip Lindeman - United Church of Christ: ... Think about it: A guy takes the test and gets all A-grades on spirituality, and then says, “Gimme a gun so I can go kill as many of the enemy as I can!” Is that what a spiritual person does? How can anybody be spiritual, and then go blow another human being (i. e., child of God, made … [Read more...]

Foxhole atheist Justin Griffith’s first speech

Last year I was invited to speak at several national conferences, but could not attend a single one because I was deployed. I gave this speech in Fort Lauderdale Florida last month, at the FLASH / American Atheists regional meetup. It was my first official public speaking engagement. http://www.youtube.com/embed/9ryGnr7nKtY? I had to follow a pretty awesome talk from my boss, Dave Silverman. To my relief, there was plenty of applause and laughter in all the right places. A fellow … [Read more...]

Transcript of Army training reveals 83 instances of bypassing US Constitution

SGT Dustin Chalker, my friend and fellow foxhole atheist, wrote to me with exact figures from the mandatory Spiritual Fitness remedial training. Keep in mind, when reporters and lawyers are around - Spiritual Fitness is only about 'team spirit' and 'human spirit'. They emphatically declare that it has nothing to do with religion (clearly an admission that they understand such a thing would be illegal). This violates the No Religious Tests and Establishment Clauses of the U.S. … [Read more...]

Sergeant Poe Here is the link to the Virtual Spiritual Fitness Center... act quickly before the new world order deletes the page. They even control Google Cache! Christians, are you thinking to yourself, "I can't believe the Army is forcibly teaching our soldiers about Wiccan rituals! That is un-American!" But they are. It's all part of the … [Read more...]

Army’s insane Virtual Spiritual Fitness Center gets remade by atheists

Jason Torpy, president of MAAF, sent out a request for some visibility on his remake of the Army’s insane Virtual Spiritual Fitness Center. I thought that was a pretty fun idea. I remember telling Jason in late March about the ridiculous website. We both kept finding more and more crazy stuff. Remember, this is brought to you by the same department that brought you the *mandatory* Spiritual Fitness testing and remedial training. You, remember… the stuff that has ‘nothing to … [Read more...]

Four dimensions and a tree

The Army's justification for the Soldier Fitness Tracker keeps reading from two scripts that contradict each other. One group claims that "Spiritual Fitness" has nothing to do with religion. Rather, it's talking about "human spirit" or "team spirit". Obviously, this backtracking is due in large part to the unconstitutional nature of requiring such a test. See: Article VI, paragraph 3, U.S. Constitution. The other group can't stop talking about religion, and they even opened up an … [Read more...]

Because these darned American Flags wont shred themselves

Quick start a Prayer Circle and ask for big-ass scissors!  I knew you could do it! What's (literally) wrong with this picture? Giant, bold Comic Sans [I swear it came like this] Judging from the pictures, everything but 'Emotional' is an outdoor activity. That emo guy in the bottom right corner represents resilience, a code word for not committing suicide. That emo guy in the bottom right corner is close to those big ass sharp scissors. An entire hour to do this: *SNIP* 'Meet me by … [Read more...]
