There’s this trend among bloggers. Many bloggers will, once a week, dedicate their time to sharing some of their favorite reads from others. I love that! And, so, I’m going to jump on the band-wagon!
Introducing, Weekend Reads!
So, without further ado, here are some awesome reads from this week that I would like to share with you all!
“Fucked Up” by Stitching Seams: A passionate, poignant piece on some of the painful after-effects of growing up in an abstinence-only world. If you read nothing else this weekend, read this.
“Confessions of a slut-shaming racist homophobe” by Stitching Seams: Stitching was obviously on a roll this week. I think many of us who grew up in fundamental churches are still trying hard to alter our thinking. We’ve been so conditioned against acceptance and tolerance that sometimes, no matter how hard we try to love and to escape harmful fundamentalist thinking, we catch ourselves having horrible knee-jerk reactions to things that don’t jive with fundamentalism. It was very brave of Stitching to admit this–I think it’s something that we all need to admit about ourselves before we can find freedom and healing.
“I Can’t Believe it’s not Religion” by Abe Kobylanski: I may be biased, but I get really excited when Abe dusts off his blog and writes something. With this post, he discusses the recent “religion vs. Jesus” controversy in his own witty manner. This made me laugh, and it contains a Dr. Who reference, so I couldn’t help but share!
“Mitt Romney As Serial Killer! Stephen Colbert Super PAC Goes On The Attack” on Addicting Info: Just watch the video. It’s great.
“Long-term Worldwide Decline in Abortions has Stalled” on Guttmacher Institute: Some interesting research results that I believe add to our recent discussion of pro-life/pro-choice stances.
“Driscoll and Brierley on Women in Leadership” on Cognitive Discopants: Your weekly Mark Driscoll controversy, brought to you by the world’s coolest blog name.
This was going around on Tumblr via ohzeitgeist: What if we just replaced Mark Driscoll with a fluffy bunny? The world would be a better place.
Oh, and here’s a picture of handerpants, just for good measure:
What are some of your favorite reads of the week? Also, feel free to link up to any posts of your own that you’d like to share! Have a great weekend!
