Is The Spiritual Path a Selfish Path?

I recently got a comment on my blog that surprised me because it put forward the idea that spirituality is a selfish persuit. I hope my answer reflects what people on a spiritual path actually think. I'd love to hear the viewpoint of other Patheos members on this topic. Jonathan said: I just get the feeling that with the clearing of the reactive mind, that morals would fly out the window, as the search for spiritual ends, in the end, are selfish, and you're told to do it for yourself. Consequences of Anonymous Slander Campaigns

A story in the Stanford University Alumni Magazine presented a sobering look at the devastation hate-driven gossip can wreak in today's information age. Titled, "The Persecution of Daniel Lee" the article chronicles the smear campaign that destroyed the life and career of one the most popular  entertainers in South Korea and his celebrity wife. On earning a bachelor and  a master degree from Stanford in 3 1/2 years, wunderkind Daniel Lee chose to pursue the unconventional profession of … [Read more...]

Raising the Standards of Happiness

In listening to a lecture from The First International Congress of Dianeticists and Scientologists, delivered in October 1953 in Philadelphia, I was struck by the following statement by L.  Ron Hubbard. “A Scientologist would be a social catalyst dedicated to the mission of raising the standards of happiness of Man and bringing him to recognize his brotherhood with the universe.” I found this very interesting, as it is clear that the kind of work the Church and individual Scientologists … [Read more...]

Some Thoughts for Those Occupying Wall Street

I have been reading of idealistic young people clamoring for a communist solution to our current economic woes. So, for those occupying Wall Street and other financial hubs, who may not have lived through the war between Capitalism and Communism (this lifetime), I have some words of wisdom. These words are those of L. Ron Hubbard, Founder of the Scientology Religion, from a congress held for Scientologists in October of 1953, three months after the Korean War—the first test of might between … [Read more...]

Thoughts on scientology

by Nick Broadhurst I often wonder if people get confused on the difference between philosophy and religion when it comes to Scientology. Is Scientology a religion or philosophy, or, are all religions philosophies? These are my thoughts just now. Scientology is most definitely a religion, and it is most definitely a philosophy. A religion has two major categories, the revealed religion – Judaism, Christianity, Islam for example; and the natural religion. While the first category of … [Read more...]

Even Babies Need Acknowledgements

The very same basics that are used with adults to communicate with other adults absolutely apply to babies as well, a fantastic example of such L. Ron Hubbard singles out in a December 1954 talk on communication, where he says: “Kids, kids that come around and they say — I have noticed this with parents. . . . kids will come around and they’ll say,’Jabber-jabber-wog-wog-yag-yem-gillilyogo-wabble.’ And you say, ‘My golly is that so?’ And they will say, … [Read more...]
