A keynote of the Church of Scientology is service—service to its parishioners and service to the community. The Church works in partnership with community leaders to accomplish these goals, in recognition of the enormous task to accomplish a civilization where all men and women may live in peace. Videoed interviews of many of these leaders are featured on the Scientology Religion website including one just post featuring the former Regional Commissioner of South African Correctional Services Mr. Sebonyane Alfred Tsetsane thanks the Church of Scientology and Founder L. Ron Hubbard for what he calls “a critical program for us in Correctional Services.” He is referring to the nonreligious common-sense moral code authored by Mr. Hubbard, The Way to Happiness, which he says “the whole society should benefit from….”

Mr. Tsetsane was one of the guest speakers at the grand opening of the Church of Scientology Pretoria in 2013, where he stated:  “I believe strongly that people must live together in harmony and peace and respect each other and each other’s property. You have given me a platform to not only be a success in my professional life and improve the lot of inmates, but you have enabled me to achieve more in my personal life, and for both I’m thankful.

“I believe that L. Ron Hubbard’s Technology is what the world needs to deal with the ills and life challenges faced by human beings.

“With the opening of this new Church, you are creating space and an opportunity for learning and dissemination of valuable information to Pretoria and South Africa, thereby promising enlightenment, knowledge and information for us all.”

In addition to his use of The Way to Happiness, Mr. Tsetsane has also adopted the Church-sponsored Truth About Drugs program. He and his daughter Kelly have delivered drug education lectures to tens of thousands using these materials.

In his video, he states:

“The programs of Scientology are very critical, if we look at the challenges that we face as society. For instance, the Criminon Program is quite a critical program for us in Correctional Services. But the results—the intended results—are that the whole society should benefit from it. The Way to Happiness, which is a program that we are running within Correctional Services, and Narconon programs as well—I think with the scourge of drugs that we are experiencing right now, it is going to mean a great deal. I believe that with the challenges that we are facing in Pretoria, not far from here, in Sunnyside, there are a lot of problems. And I believe that if we spread the word about the existence of the Church here and the programs that are running, we can get more people to get assistance and help.

“L. Ron Hubbard is a great man. He is a humanitarian. He has done a lot of work. I have read some of his work. We do use some of the books that he has published. And he is I think what God has brought to the world to assist the world.”
