Thank you for this. I am sorry to learn of Lawrence Anthony's passing. Although I only met him one or two times, I loved that man. I have worked in my own area, sometimes for as long as 20 years, to protect an area of habitat needed by wild creatures and plants. Nothing so dramatic as standing up to a raging elephant or humans with guns!

We cannot survive without other life forms. And, trying to have only the ones that seem to support us at this instant is not a long-term workable solution.

The Irish Potato Famine was a lesson.

Few people know that in California, it is impossible to plant an orange seed and have it grow into a tree. Why? There is a fungus in the ground that will kill it. Fortunes were made in California because anyone with land could plant some seeds and have an orange orchard. Then, somehow, the fungus got imported........ Now every orange tree that grows edible fruit here has to be grafted onto trifoliate orange, a citrus relative that is immune.

In natural forms, in breeds of plants and animals, we have the wealth of the diversity of life, the many paths that life takes to ensure that survival will occur.

Poison, like Round-Up and the plants genetically modified to withstand it, is not an optimum solution to feeding humans. We need to do better.

Personally, I think it is much more interesting if this blog is used to describe beliefs, practices and such.

Using it as a place to copy paste Scientology press releases, in my opinion, is a waste of bits on reduces the value of Patheos.

What you mention is real, but there are recent analyses that it must be fixed. It seems to indicate not only that most people will resist correcting their factual objectives.

Everything posted was very logical. However, what about this? suppose you added a little content? I mean, I don't wish to tell you how to run your blog, but what if you added something that makes people want more? I mean Scientology Beliefs » September–Disaster Preparedness Month is a little vanilla. You could glance at Yahoo's front page and note how they write article titles to grab people interested. You might try adding a video or a related picture or two to get readers interested about what you've got to say. In my opinion, it could bring your blog a little livelier.

Thank you Irish. It's a very good question that takes more than a cursory explanation. I am assuming your questions was not merely rhetorical, and that your purpose was to establish dialogue. Am I correct? If so, I would tell you first that I have indeed read the Bible and many other philosophers, and my own search for truth led me to Scientology more than 40 years ago. I have since read all the books Mr. Hubbard wrote and I have listened to more than 500 of his recorded lectures, and I have never in all that time ever once heard or read a statement that is consistent with the claim that he created a religion to make money. To the contrary, he supported the organization and paid for all his own research from the revenues generated by his fiction writing (which was not only science fiction, by the way, but encompassed all the pulp genres of the 1930s when short stories were the most popular form of entertainment). If you are genuinely interested in the answer to this question, the best way to find out for yourself is to read one of Mr. Hubbard's books. I recommend Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, as it is his discovery of the reactive mind that was the first major breakthrough, and its existence explains why Mankind could wander in confusion for millennia.

If mankind is basically good and an individual has lived for eons, then why are there no perfect people in the world today? Is it because in millennia past there was never one like L. Ron Hubbard who could write a book to direct the spirits to a better place? How can this be? If everyone has always existed, they have come and gone in different bodies throughout all eternity, wouldn’t you think that someone would have come up with the “fix-all” before Hubbard? Good golly man; Hubbard was a science fiction writer who decided to create a church as a means to make money. And his ideas are not new. Since the beginning of recorded history man has been trying to set himself up as God. I encourage you to grow. Accept nothing but the truth; do not accept something because you already believe it to be so. Study historians like Josephus and Moses. Study the Bible to see if there is something in there that you missed. If you are right about Scientology you have lost nothing, but if you’re wrong…you are wrong for all eternity. And eternity without God is eternal torment. I tell you this with good intent.
