How Catherine and I Celebrated “Anniversary 1.5”

How Catherine and I Celebrated “Anniversary 1.5” July 27, 2015

This weekend, Catherine and I celebrated 18 months of marriage. Time seems to be flying by in my life because it feels as if we just got married a month ago. Anyway, as a simple-thinking man I thought once you’re married you only celebrate your anniversary annually but Catherine thought we should recognize our year and a half mark. She thought it would be fun to plan something small but special each day of the weekend to commemorate our big day. So here’s what we did…

We started Anniversary 1.5 by viewing Dallas by air. I found a really cool date idea on Groupon where you can take a small plane ride around the Dallas area for an hour at 1,500 ft. We drove up to a small private airport just north of Dallas, met our pilot and hopped in a little four-seater propeller plane. I have to say, I had so much fun! We flew at such a low level that we could really see everything on the ground yet we were getting a new perspective of Dallas at the same time. We flew just over the tops of the buildings in Downtown Dallas and then we flew north to Oklahoma and back. If your city has something like this, I recommend you try it. Catherine and I both loved it.

Saturday, I was in charge of planning something small but special in the afternoon and Catherine had the dinner plans. So we started the afternoon by making cauliflower pizzas. If you haven’t tried one yet, you’re missing out! The cauliflower crust tastes just as good as a crust made of dough. I bought the necessary ingredients at the store and surprised Catherine with the idea once I got home (and flowers). It’s a little labor intensive but it was fun to do together. After that, we picked out a movie that was set in Hawaii because we recently made plans to take a vacation there in September. We ended up eating our pizzas and watching 50 First Dates on the couch. A pretty great way to spend the afternoon. That night, Catherine took me to a new seafood restaurant in Dallas that we hadn’t tried before. She knew I was trying to eat healthy so she thought seafood would be the best choice. Couldn’t have asked for a better day.

We wrapped our weekend long, semi-celebration with two more activities. After church, I decided to take Catherine to the George W. Bush Library and Museum. It’s almost embarrassing that we haven’t been there before because it’s literally walking distance from our house on the SMU campus. Catherine loves museums and I love history so I thought it would be fun for both of us. We both really enjoyed it. If you’re in the Dallas area, I recommend checking it out. After touring the library for an hour or so, Catherine surprised me with a couples massage. It was one of the best, most relaxing hours of my life. We walked out of the spa so relaxed and at peace. After that, we wrapped up our night and Anniversary 1.5 back on the couch watching True Detective.

Life is good and I try to be extremely grateful each day for the blessings God has given me. Thanks to everyone who has supported us over the past 18 months!
