Just Got To Be

Today I’m over at Inside Catholic, making vaguely incendiary statments about Rush Limbaugh, Elton John, Israel, and The Black Keys.

Look, Ma, no toilet jokes today!  See you there?

If you like The Black Keys and The White Stripes–you should check out The Dead Weather.

Also, Dan Auerbach’s solo stuff is pretty good too.

Incendiary indeed. But very true too. I couldn’t watch the video (technical computer issues) but I am somewhat familiar with the Black Keys. What bothers, well, perplexes me, is the attitude so many Catholics have about music (I guess it relates to all those years we didn’t allow it). Of course we don’t play the Black Keys during mass. I didn’t think that was the point. And I find it interesting that people assume (remember that to assume is to make an “ass” out of “u” and “me”) that because one might like a certain type of music that means they want it at mass OR that they are now a bad Catholic. One of my favorite movie quotes of all time comes from the movie Footloose (I know, I know) when John Lithgow’s character, the preacher, Reverand Shaw Moore, comes across the crowd burning books and stops them saying, “Satan isn’t in these books, He’s in here! (and points to his heart).” Which is a very apt description in these times.

Oh, and I have serious Rush Limbaugh issues, but this new one that this man who counsels us on family values has been married FOUR times. Unacceptable. I guess it proves what conservatives and Catholics are willing to overlook in certain situations.
