Films Oscar Forgot 2008

Some of the films I would like to have seen get more attention by the Academy this year are:

Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who                                                                                                                                                             I reviewed it on my St. Anthony Messenger column earlier this year An Awesome Pachyderm and wrote Horton Hears a Who Study Guide.

Quantum of Solace

Although my initial review reflected disappointment, I was invited to take a deeper look by a friend; I even gave it one of my CineRose Awards in St. Anthony Messenger because of its moral dimension:  Quantum of Solace. I also think the Academy missed the cinematography which from the beginning I thought was brilliant (the opera scene, the visual parallels, awesome.)

And there were others…

'Captive' is a compelling, moving drama
'Dukhtar' showcases Pakistan's fledgling independent film insustry
'Black Mass' 'Everest' and 33 Films at the Venice Film Festival
'The Assassin' is a stunning martial arts with a female hero
