Best Wedding Video Ever & the Singing Priest

2014.04.10-mrconservative-5347141b282b9-500x294

Over 21 million hits so far (amazing if April 7, 2014 is the actual date it was posted) of Irish priest Fr. Ray Kelly surprise song at the end of the nuptial mass for Chris and Leah O'Kane.  Inspiring and beautiful. I know some liturgists have voiced their dismay at the non-liturigcal nature of the song or its use within the mass but it's done now and it was a beautiful gift for the couple. All is grace. Here is "SonLight" singing "Be Thou My Vision" (they are in the video, too, at … [Read more...]

salutsalon_haifisch-575x584

Thanks to Deacon Greg Kandra (The Deacon's Bench) for posting this wonderful YouTube video that will make you smile even if you don't feel like it. These ladies of "Salut Salon" are artistic and fun. Their performance is another reason why we need arts education, folks.  They call themselves "a Chamber Music acrobatic ensemble."This paragraph is from their website (that Google will translate for you): "Ludwig van Beethoven is often quoted as saying: "I will grab fate by the throat, all bow … [Read more...]

“Narco Cultura” explores the meaning of the US & Mexico’s war on drugs

Narco1_0

"Narco Cultura" 102 minutes, in English and Spanish with English subtitlesJust when some think border fences between the U.S. and Mexico are stemming the tide of undocumented people coming north, their status as problem-solvers appears to be that of a managed image to mask the real threat to the U.S: illegal trafficking in guns and drugs that is facilitating a tragic conflict in Mexico. What U.S. citizens are not seeing is how the Mexican war on drugs is fueled by arms from the U.S. and … [Read more...]

The Voice – they are all winners but I am voting for Cassadee Pope (and she won!)

VoiceBlogImage

The Voice is a terrific show and as Season Three marched on these final three singers, Cassadee, Nicholas David, and Terry McDermott were voted through over and over. The judges didn't nit-pick (as much) as in Season Two and the show was always entertaining (especially watching a recording to skip commercials.)I think most of the singers that the judges "turned around for" during the audition/selection process could have made it; there are so many people "praying twice" out there, singing t … [Read more...]

Susan Boyle’s best yet: “Standing Ovation: the greatest songs from the stage” CD

92ec5b9a4fe2c4a2abe2aefe446bdadc

In 2009 I wrote a blog post "What should Susan Boyle sing next?" I said in part:Some may think a Disney soundtrack should be Susan's first release, but I think she could sing"Send in the Clowns" that so many famous artists have voiced before: Judy Collins, Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey. "Send in the Clowns" was created for the British actress Glynis Johns (bn. 1923) who played Desiree in Sondheim's 1973 "A Little Night Music" based on Ingmar Bergman's 1955 film, … [Read more...]
