Violent Blue Like Jazz

“I come out of this … subculture …” Yep.

And because of that, I’m looking forward to Blue Like Jazz, based on the book by Donald Miller and directed by Steve Taylor.

Steve Taylor being the manic scarecrow figure hollering the song in the first video above. I’ve not seen his earlier feature film, but I’ve enjoyed several of the music videos he’s directed over the years, such as “Kiss Me,” “Smug” and “Since I Gave Up Hope I Feel a Lot Better.”

Blue Like Jazz opens in theaters on April 13 and I plan to go see it shortly after that. (I can’t go see it on April 13, because that’s also when The Cabin in the Woods comes out.)

Okay, this movie looks like it was written by Hunter S. Thompson if Hunter was a Baptist.

My first concert was Steve Taylor, having my parents drive me two hours to Colorado Springs so that I could see the ‘I Predict 1990’ show.  It’s with not a small amount of chagrin that I also find that ‘I came out of this … subculture’ line to resonate.  I’m looking forward to seeing this movie too, though I’m expecting that it may cause me a fair amount of squirming.
