There’s a bright golden haze on the meadow

There’s a bright golden haze on the meadow July 28, 2017

We’ll get today’s Left Behind Classic post up a bit later, but some news happened overnight and it might be good to have an open thread first to discuss that: “Senate rejects measure to partly repeal Affordable Care Act, dealing Trump and GOP leaders a major setback.”

President Trump and congressional Republicans suffered a dramatic failure early Friday in their bid to advance a scaled-back plan to overhaul the Affordable Care Act, raising the prospect of emergency bipartisan talks to shore up the existing health-care system. …

The GOP bill was voted down 51 to 49 — all 48 members of the Democratic caucus joined McCain and Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) to block the legislation.

Granted, the effort to repeal or sabotage the Affordable Care Act likely isn’t completely dead. I keep thinking of that scene in Halloween, when Jamie Lee Curtis, imagining she’s just killed the killer, drops the knife and collapses on the couch. This monster likely isn’t really dead yet either, so we need to stay vigilant and vocal. (Michael Myers. MM. Mitch McConnell. MM. Just coincidence?)

But today, at least, we can take a breath and marvel that we managed to keep things from getting much, much worse. Congratulations and thank you to all of the millions who fought for that. Keep fighting.
