By now you probably have heard about Jeremy Courtney who launched the hashtag #WeAreN, as a show of solidarity for persecuted Christians in Iraq.   Courtney founded the non-profit Preemptive Love, which works in Iraq, to "[eradicate] the backlog of Iraqi children waiting in line for lifesaving heart surgery" and pursuing "peace between communities at odds."Courtney recently did an interview with Huffington Post Religion editor Paul Rauschenbusch, which grabbed my attention.  Specifically, he said: We need a long-term plan, not just a short-term fix. Slow Church: Embodying Justice, Peace and Love [Video]

Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to do a brief talk (between broadcast sessions) at The Justice Conference Indianapolis. I gave a short description of Slow Church that focused on our call to embody justice, peace and love in our local congregations. Remembering Robert Rottet and Wilfred Owen

It was on this day in 1999, that my friend the poet/guitarist/songwriter Robert Rottet passed away. He died outside Ft. Bragg. NC, and there is a haze that surrounds the circumstances of his death. Officially, the Army ruled his death a suicide, but some that were close to him at that time suspect foul play.  Regardless, his death was deeply intertwined with his military service.I realized this morning that Nov. 4 also marks the death of another young poet, Wilfred Owen, who also met his untimely demise -- in WWI -- as a result of his military service.Here is a video of Rob playing … [Read more...]
