How I felt when I realized my book was being released on D-Day

How I felt when I realized my book was being released on D-Day May 29, 2016

On June 6, 1944, one hundred and fifty-six thousand American, British and Canadian forces landed along a 50-mile stretch of Normandy.  Though more than 4,000 brave Allied troops died during the invasion (and thousands more wounded or missing),  this has been called the “beginning of the end of war in Europe.”

I was sitting in my house, scanning the internet when it dawned on me.  My book, There Goes My Social Life: From Clueless to Conservative, is coming out on June 6 of this year… seventy two years after that heroic landing ended such a horrible war.

I am honored, humbled, and sobered by that coincidence.

Our soldiers have spilled precious blood to secure our freed0m and the freedom of others.  In America, we have liberty because of the bravery of so many who gave all.  I am very blessed to have the opportunity to tell my story — about coming from the South Bronx to where I am today.

But I know that without the sacrifice of so many men and women throughout American history, I would not have a chance to experience the American dream…  and I certainly wouldn’t have the chance to write a book about it.

Thank you to all of the military men and women who have made this nation possible.  When my book launch happens on June 6th, I’ll be holding in my heart a deep appreciation for the true heroes who make stories like mine a possibility.
