There’s a Trump supporter on the board at Facebook and Zuckerberg powerfully stands up for him

Facebook was caught red-handed this year censoring conservative media outlets and pushing liberal news to the top of its trending pages. But it appears as though founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is getting a handle on what it means to allow a variety of viewpoints represent his company.

In a leaked screenshot of an internal memo posted at Perez Hilton.com, Zuckerberg came to the defense of one of his billionaire board members, Paypal co-founder Peter Thiel who gave over $1 million to Donald Trump’s campaign. Of course, everyone close to Facebook nearly fainted when they learned of Thiel’s awful deed and questioned whether he should remain in such a high position within the company.

Thankfully, Zuckerberg told his colleagues that diversity means having a variety of viewpoints and that might include some they don’t like. Elitists tend to forget that.

“We care deeply about diversity,” Zuckerberg wrote. “That’s easy to say when it means standing up for ideas you agree with. It’s a lot harder when it means standing up for the rights of people with different viewpoints to say what they care about. That’s even more important.”

“We can’t create a culture that says it cares about diversity and then excludes almost half of the country because they back a political candidate. There are many reasons a person might support Trump that do not involve racism, sexism, xenophobia or accepting sexual assault. It may be because they believe strongly in smaller government, a different tax policy, health care system, religious issues, gun rights or any other issue where he disagrees with Hillary.”

Class dismissed, children.
