Once upon a time, college professors were in the education business but more and more, they are babysitters for an increasingly coddled generation of the always offended.
Instead of having the authority to tell them it’s time to grow up, universities are sending professors through training courses on how to be more sensitive to students. For instance, it’s now bad to require minority students to be on time to class because their culture might have a different view of punctuality. And to top it off, the professors are told to adjust to the students’ schedule. This is really happening! And in America!! From TruthRevolt:
Clemson University professors have gone through a diversity training course that teaches them not to expect minority students to be on time and to be sensitive to how other cultures perceive time.
Organized in slides, the scenario in question features a fictional “Alejandro” who sets up a meeting between two groups of foreign professors and students. The first group is 15 minutes early to the meeting and the second is 10 minutes late. After the scene plays, The Daily Caller notes, a Q&A begins which “instructs Clemson’s professors that Alejandro would be insufficiently ‘inclusive’ if he were to ‘politely ask the second group to apologize.’ Alejandro would also be wrong to advise the straggling, late people who aren’t respecting everyone else’s time that ‘in our country, 9:00 a.m. means 9:00 a.m.’”
The professors are then told to “recognize cultural differences that may impact the meeting and adjust accordingly” because one “cultural perspective regarding time is neither more nor less valid than any other.”
What a deal at only $27,000 for the training materials!
Wow, no wonder colleges charge so much to get in.
Clemson claims that teaching professors political correctness actually leads to “better decisions” and can “decrease employee turnover.” Really?! Not requiring students be on time is a good decision? And what professor wants to work somewhere he or she can’t demand common decency from their students?
But here’s the real kicker. Clemson’s chief diversity officer, Lee Gill, picked out the training course for the professors. He makes over $185,000 per year and has the full support of President James Clements, who “strongly suggests” all employees participate in the training. Talk about job security.
Perhaps they should replace this course with some priority training, because there’s are all out of whack.
